While trying to change the tyre DH managed to drop the tyre on my foot!
He is amazed that it is black and blue! "I must have a real problem with my feet as the tyre is only rubber!"
Decided to have an early night and "put my foot up".
Sorry elona, but I'm afraid I laughed:o Hope the foot gets better soon. And hope DH learns that many pounds of rubber do as much damage as the same weight of something else:rotfl:You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Oh Tru
I can understand you being on a downer tonight. This is a wonderful young life being snuffed out and goodness knows how the parents feel. I think, there but but goes us. We never know what is tomorrow. I am one of those who weeps buckets when I hear these awful tragic stories. Hope your DD is OK with it all.
We have just had a major incident in our street with a very serious thing going on (underage drinking and absinthe) at a birthday party. We have had to have police and ambulance. I really do not want to say any more just now. Fortunately one of the police officers lives locally and will deal with things appropriately (and probably a bit sympathetically because I do think the poor wee lad will be ill for a few days). Parents absolutely distraught as it really really could have had dire consequences too, as you can imagine. I was doing a bit more gentle gardening and I could hear that something was wrong as did one or two other neighbours so we went to investigate! Everyone hung round while police and ambulance attended - I gave parents a hug and said I think we should give you a bit of privacy. Loads of folk out on street and not very nice. Said I would keep in touch about how their son is over next few days. Did not feel I should hang round for the aftermath and what everyone says. I have had two teenagers, been there, got the t-shirt but not as bad as this one tonight thank goodness. Hopefully the wee man might have learned his lesson.

Sorry Natzini
I think I have missed something. So sorry you feel the way you do. PM me if necessary. I have never felt there is a hatred of teachers. As in any profession unfortunately there are some not so well equipped as others - we have to accept this. I work in the 'education' business and a very small minority of the teachers I deal with can be a bit scatty with to be honest sometimes little common sense - not because they are teachers but because they are humans; but on the whole that is with their admin and how I deal with them, not the way they deal with the children.
Please don't let this get you down.
Speak to me.

natzini, please don't stop posting!! Common sense tells us there are good and bad in every proffession, group, etc.etc. in life. A good teacher is worth their weight in gold, as is a good *anything*. Unfortunately one bad experience tends to temper peoples' attitudes. My own DS3 is a policeman. Now if you want a vilified, under-appreciated, abused profession, that is it!! A *friend* told me all police are lazy, racist, corrupt b*stards, and if not when they join, very shortly after! That hurt like fury, especially as he came home that night scarred for life after having had his head kicked by a *misunderstood* individual. He however, loves his job, and always wanted to do something that would help people. The pay means he doesn't have a hope of buying property in London for some years, but it's what he wants.
Sorry, didn't mean to bring my own rant in:o We'd miss you, don't stop posting. Most people appreciate teachers. (and anyone doing their job to the best of their ability:D )You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Congratulations Leigh
(((((hugs)))) to your dd tru
GB - can I be dumb and ask what absynth is?
natzini there are good and bad everything, and I dont think teachers have even been mentioned on the OS daily. Sometimes I get a bit narked with the inference that is the only stressful job, and I am sure it is very stressful, medals are required for how some youngsters behave, but so are many others jobs. Put it down to the jealousy of the 6 weeks off, and dont let it upset you (whatever was said!)Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Aw Churchmouse
My best friend's son is a policeman and we have quite a few living locally (including the one I mentioned in a slightly earlier post).
Totally uncalled for they are doing their jobs and let's face it these days it is rather more difficult! I think they kind of get a lot of uncalled for abuse. Dixon of Dock Green only had to patrol the beat. What do our police people have to deal with now? Drugs, guns, Asbos, terrorists, all sorts of motoring things etc etc etc and everything else.

Absinthe is a really strong alcoholic drink- MIS (mother in sin, lol) had 2 shots of this at BILs 30th birthday... you do not want to see how she ended up, pretty shocking! She got v emotional, vomited and then we spent the rest of the evening keeping her awake! was crazy.
There are loads of stressful jobs and gosh I deffo know I couldn't do some of them! My DSis works in customer services and I think I'd be afraid of picking up the phone to an irate customer every time the phone went! Actually I think every job can be stressful, it would be wrong to rate jobs more or less stressful, wouldn't it? You're totally right!

Nazini, I deal with the public in my job, and have been told a few times to eff off, just for doing that job. There seems to be an assumption among some people that I am uneducated, a bit slow (someone said to me "oh you can count" when I worked out her change in my head!!!), have not travelled and don't read anything other than The Mail. Try not to take what some people say personally - it's just mouthing off, stereotyping and labelling, probably with a bit of sarcasm and exaggeration thrown in, and of course it's all done behind the safe facade of a fake name. Rise above it!!
Tru - I am sorry to hear that terrible news.0 -
Absinthe is a really strong alcoholic drink- quote]
Absinthe is evil - evil and green! Absinthe almost stole xmas 2 years ago. we have a tradition of having one new to us liquer and exoh brought absinthe and informed us that the proper way to drink it was to take a teaspoonful of sugar, soak it in the absinthe but keeping it on the spoon, light the absinthey sugar, pour into the rest of drink, blow out - down in one  four irresponsible adults drank the lot on xmas eve playing raucous monopoly till 6am and crawled to bed just as the first of the eager little children was climbing out of bed - naughty us - we told the littlie that it was still midnight and santy hadn't been yet
I beleive we sat down to dinner at about 8pm
stefI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
