SFD so far as Ive had a pyjama day and pigged out on lots of food and a healthy juice. I used my secret microwave this afternoon mothernerd! No wallpaper used to blend it into the background just an old throw to help disguise it as a low table ;)

How do you explain the beeping noise your 'table' makes??????

And what have I missed? Why is it a secret?! Are you in a flat with monster flatmates? :D I love the idea of a secret microwave. It would however encourage me to eat very badly... popcorn on tap next to the bed!! :T

Applemuncher :rotfl:thankfully the microwave has a subtle 'ping' to it when times up! I switch it off before it gets to that stage so as not to arouse suspicion

Lilt I live in a shared house at the mo and a few weeks ago I started looking into studio flats so I could have my own space and not fight for the kitchen! When a particular flat fell through, I decided to buy a lil microwave for my room and now have a secret stash of tuna, beans, microwave rice, a selection of puddings and a potato for when I need to whip up something quick :T I would highly recommend one ;)

  • Aha! I saw about the flat falling through but didn't click that that was why! I live alone with a small child, in a flat.. So my microwave is only a few footsteps away and no one fights me for it anyway :D which is the reason I have endless tins of rice pudding in the cupboard above it! :D LOL - if you can stick it out, it really is much more expensive living on your own. You don't realise until you're paying all of each bill each month.

Hugs though, it is very hard sharing everything!

Ooo I like the alphabet signing practice! I agree Mr Tumble is great for learning Makaton! :)

Love the secret microwave and it's disguise! hahaha! And even more the fact you turn it off before it pings- brilliant!

Mothernerd hope you get all of your bus travel sorted!

Had a small spend day yesterday as I had to get fuel, however I could only get £5 of fuel as the hose kept cutting out. Took me about 5 minutes just to get that much in! (It was running out), so I will have to get some more tomorrow to get me through commuting to and from work this week. SFD today so total is:16!

Nice to see you Thrifty! Hope you and the Thrifty family are all well! :) Here's a link to next month's Challenge which is being run by apple muncher :

Thanks mothernerd for this month's challenge, I have kept within budgets but I haven't managed the food bank as I haven't been out for a week but I will try harder next month, also the exercise didn't go too well anyway looking forwards to next month when I'm going to reduce my grocery spends by £5 a week.

  • Hello All

    Hope you are all well.

    Welcome back Thriftylass and Traveller.

Today has been spendy ..I made a purchase for my nan off am4zon for a magnifier so that she can read at night as her eyesight is bad. I didn't mind loosing a SFD for this as my nan needs it .
However was going to see my friend and i went to start the car and it wouldn't start !!!!. Luckily OH was in a managed to jump the car to start it and it did. Took it the long way to my friends and let it run for a while. So i thought it had sorted itself. Switched the engine off and surprise surprise it wouldn's start. So my friend had to jump me and follow me to h4lford3 to get a new battery so i have had to spend £65 that i haven't got. I am devastated :(

So i have really got to pull all the stops of for October to minimise any further expenditure .

I working all day tomorrow so won't finish till gone 11pm so this is my last post for September.

mothernerd THANK YOU so much for this thread it has been great.

Hugs to all that need them... look forward to seeing you all in October

    Night all xxx

Thanks again for the wonderful words of encouragement. I am very grateful to have stumbled across such a lovely bunch of people.
    :D

Today has been a spend-free day as I have been at work all day (finally got home at 20:55!!) So that is me reached the magic 15!!
    :j

I will actually be at 16 by the end of the month as I am at work all day tomorrow too.
    :)

Although my brain is mushed, I am away to go and try to figure out a plan of attack for October (based on the Triathalon approach). Wish me luck as right now I can't even remember my name.
    ;)

    Hugs to everyone.

I too wondered why you were confessing to me about the microwave then I remember saying I imagined the microwave in dark glasses and a trilby or decorated like something from vision on. When they were younger the boys always wanted their rooms arranging so they could play on their games consoles from their beds in the holidays (after they had done their paper rounds). One year DS1 was particularly engrossed in a particular game (could only save at certain stages) and when I went upstairs he had the toaster, a loaf of bread, marg, jam and a knife all lined up so he could play for hours on end.

Glad you are well enough to go out today.

Welcome back thriftylass and traveller. I see you have both signed up to the October Challenge and we have lots of new turtles too.

    Poor luckystarr.

I keep checking my bank account - if the payment I am still waiting for, for the parcel I sent in August goes through my debt will only have gone up by £30 (will come down by £154 on the first) which given the amount of paint spends is not good but close.

Mum didn't come home. She has a chest infection (her partner passed on his cold) and has to have antibiotics. She hasn't improved to the extent the consultant would like so it may be the beginning of next week rather than the end of this week before she comes out. I think this is good as looking after her partner is quite stressful (he has Alzheimer's) and will only deteriorate so the more his children spend time with him, they will realise how much she has been doing.

I asked about stress management - she really does not handle stress well or take enough steps to look after herself and have some quiet time. Her partner tried to go back for her after we had left the ward. She asked the sister about my appointment and it is possible my gp can arrange transport, so must try that. Mum is really loving the food and managing to eat - she had soup, fish with veg and sponge pudding and custard so she has improved but they will continue to juggle medication to get her better - two weeks ago she struggled with a hot chocolate and then with soup and couldn't finish either.

May also make some money as partner's grand-daughter (twin of the one with us today) needs a washing machine. DS2 wanted me to pay him for his, as the house already has one but I refused to pay for something I bought him in the first place (and got charged for as it went through the day before my bill was made up and I went over limit - it was his Christmas present two years ago but 'it would be easier' if he got it end of October). That, with what I have coming in should be enough for the mid-month standing orders, then see what I have left for the November 1st bank loan final payment.

Today I am grateful for traffic free roads (finding myself a little wistful as the area we keep traveling through to avoid the roadworks is where an old flame used to live and I keep seeing little bits that are familiar amongst all the new buildings), for resisting the chip shop and the pleasure of watching mum able to eat properly and enjoying her food.
