  • Fmess are you joking about the vaccinations?!?! My vet always used to send us a letter a month before the year was up offering a discount if we got it done a month earlier, so every year we did it at 11 months...  - you learn something new every day... Thanks for the info *stores it away for future pet ownership*

Phoenix - I don't care what you spent it on... not all debt is bad debt. You're paying nothing on it although you probably paid a balance transfer fee, so the longer you leave that 'debt' there, and your money in savings, the more you earn and the less that balance transfer fee works out at over the months. Most people in here are not confident enough to try stoozing, but the idea is to take out a 0% card, take the money from it and put it into savings, so pay all your bills from it until it is maxed, and every bill amount, dump into a high interest savings account for the time you have. So think of it like that. Work hard at building up the amount of savings to match the CC, and then build higher for the Uni 'debt' :) keep smiling. I have the cash to buy a laptop right now, but am going to use a 0% purchases card simply because I can earn interest on my savings. So as satisfying as it would be to see a £0 balance on the card, it is more satisfying to watch the interest ping in each month :)

As Apple said, it is my opinion, feel free to disregard!! :D xx

  • Interesting to hear about the different ways you budget.

Stewby congratulations on getting below £3,000:j:j:j

applemuncher not really doing the physio exercise. Physio discharged me to send me to scan lady, who recommended the surgical consult. No-one has told me what I can/ should be doing except not walking - and walking has become incredibly difficult. Hoping to get more information next week.

Pheonix look after yourself and I agree with the others, keep chipping away at the debt until repayment time is running out.

So pleased with all your signing progress.

You can all get off the naughty step because if anyone should be there, it's me, although it will have to be a rather high stool or chair (just struggled with painting the sides of the bottom two stairs to the attic, no idea what it looks like underneath).

Kicking myself because I realised that while I was waiting for the last bus yesterday evening, I could have asked at the bus station for help with next Monday's journey (travel office is open in the day-time but at other times they have someone in a little cubby hole). They could probably have printed off timetables for me and given me advice on fares - as the hospital is only just over the county border I may only have to pay extra for the last little bit, with the day ticket covering everything else.

Also added up all the figures (one not yet arrived, but used internet banking) and my debt has risen slightly over the past month. It will go down again on October 1st when the bank loan (money already in account) goes out. I paid the water rates and the cc with the £200 owing, but DS3's last year's Christmas present and diy expenditure have taken it up again. Think I have put off the paint purchases so long but had to buy it, one bill nearly £50 and two more paint spends for £21 and £17 (actually those three total more than the current overspend, so have actually covered the pressie as well).

Put the anger to good use and went out and attacked the back garden. Lots of soil moved back onto the borders and a modest harvest of potatoes and onions. More to do but may ask DS1 as only place for more soil is at the front and he can move them while I am thinking about it. Done a tiny bit of painting which would have held everything up if not completed. Hoping to get more done tomorrow after hospital visit (we don't know if we will be bringing mum back yet) as I need to sort out the bits I can't do before DS1 comes on Tuesday.

Couldn't spend money if I wanted to as the junction further down is having repairs today and the next two Sundays, so my bus stop is closed.

If I disappear it is because the laptop wire is getting harder to manipulate - have to put it in the socket and then twist it round until the charging light comes on and then it goes off again if it alters position.

Today I am grateful for hg veg (not done the tomatoes yet), for organisation and ys bargains (having freezer hm ready meals but a little variety is welcome).

    Evening All

Thank you for all of the advice. I have set my budgets and they are for next month. I have done one shop so that will show on the next month budget totals. The rest will stay as per this challenge as don't need to touch any other monies till the 1st if that makes sense.

Stewby congratulations on being under 3k that is fantastic

PhoeniX Don't be disheartened, keep chipping away at the debt you will get there, I have been feeling similar to be honest.

Hugs to all that need them xxx

I have managed a SFD and exercise today. the SFD was really hard but I was strict with myself and refused to leave the house once i got in even though i really wanted a diet cok3. :j:j:j

I am refocusing and getting my debt busting up and running at full speed !!!!!. :D

Today has been productive as have been at work, cooking homemade tomato soup and making plum jam ready for my Xmas hampers.

Fmess thanks will ask vets tomorrow. Quoted me an extra £25 to have kennel cough done separately.

I have been told before by a farmer that injections last much longer than a year. I imagine after 12 years of them my sheep dog must enough in her system. Just the kennels I do it for.

Sorry to hear your grounded Mothernerd ;-)

There is a school of thought about pet vaccinations that once they have had their first ones as a puppy they do not need any more. Vets are all about the money so they will definitely keep quiet about that.

And this is the school of thought I subscribe to :D I have a cat though. I don't know if that makes a difference. Sorry I have been AWOL for this month :o At the start of this month, I had a very unexpected issue to deal with and just couldn't concentrate on anything, although the debt busting continued. I am ok now though and am back on course. Well done to everyone and hugs to everyone as it's not easy doing this and seeing it through :T Have a great day everyone. Can't believe it's been over a year and next year, i'll be debt free. Well done Stewby :T

  • :hello: Hello!

I've been absent from Kat's challenges for the last few month and missed her departure, hope all is well.

So today on my first (slow) day back in work after maternity I discovered that the challenge inspired by her continues as the Ninja Saving Turtles, great idea. I'll lurk the next few days and hope there will be an October challenge, unless I already missed that?

Got to pay back some money for the wedding (about 2k borrowed from family) which was a week ago and got two kids in nursery now, so need to get my act together!

    See you soon

    Hi gang

Welcome back thrifty and traveller

Congrats on reaching sub 3k Stewby

Thanks for your advice and kind words folks, I have taken all your suggestions on board and will hold fire with breaking into the piggy bank for now and chip away at the card the best I can. Lilt I got a 0% purchase credit card after becoming debt free in January but it gradually crept up after getting some dental work.. and an electric bike :o I do love my bike :happyhear SooI guess I have been doing this stoozing business without realising. Its still a debt at the end of the day and I hate that feeling of owing money despite having savings that are 'tied up' til February :o

SFD so far as Ive had a pyjama day and pigged out on lots of food and a healthy juice. I used my secret microwave this afternoon mothernerd! No wallpaper used to blend it into the background just an old throw to help disguise it as a low table ;)

Have a nice day gang Im going back under the duvet for a bit of snoozing while its wet and miserable out there :D
