  • Today I am grateful for an appointment with a lovely nutritionist for dd, for the wonderful receptionist in dd's school, for finding a parking space near the hosp, for plenty of daylight, for a great chat with my mum.

Totalled up this months spending and it is just ridiculous! I am so cross with myself. I've figured out that much can be rectified next month, although OH and I have our first holiday booked for over 3 years, which means more kennel costs plus food and transport costs whilst we're though :( Althoigh I can't wait and it's long overdue that we made some time for each other.

You know where you went wrong, you know how to rectify it, just keep plodding.:)

Today had new carpets fitted in bedrooms can't believe I choose something so fluffy - almost a shag pile Look forward to moving furniture back tonight and having 2 clean tidy rooms, maybe 3 bedroom might be tidy when everything back in place.:T

In a good mood today, on grandson collection after work. Nice age 3 it's fun now, the questions drive you mad tho. Not sure of the answers to some, Why is that snail pretending to be a snail? :)

Be good squirrels, no one has been put on naughty step yet this month by Mothernerd,:rotfl:

Carpet sounds good, but glad I am not cleaning it. Have fun with your grandson (he's making your brain cells work). If anyone was on the naughty step, it would be me and I'd either fall off (if I could get down that far anyway) or be unable to get up again.:rotfl:

I had posted an awfully longwinded story but have decided to shorten it.
Basically, I closed my old credit card account and they sent me a letter to phone about paying it off. I phoned and the guy was charging me £50 interest despite the account only containing £9.53!! We debated this with him and his only answer was that the money would get refunded to the credit card if it was too much. We tried to explain that the account was closed but he just kept repeating himself.
Long story short was that this £50 meant that I could no longer pay off enough to get under £3k. So I was really quite gutted and upset.
However, my parents are lending me the money so that I can still get under £3k because they know how hard I have been trying and my dad is now also cancelling his BofS card that he has had for 15 years due to their sheer greed and inability to make simple things simple.

This is dreadful. Would it be worth complaining? In writing? Or would you feel like you were banging your head against a brick wall.

Another quiet day for me (must add another SFD to my total). Finishing off a set of Christmas cards that have been around for many years (never had the right colours). Then the book the pattern is in can be added to the cs pile. Mum phoned me, she had tried this morning but only had the house phone number (gave her the mobile number specifically) which takes me 10 minutes to get to. She is still improving but someone has decided she should have mushy food so that she doesn't choke and gave her cutlery with large knobs for handles. I am being taken to see her on Friday afternoon.

DS1 is coming tomorrow so should make more progress. I have done things it just isn't noticeable yet.

    Have a good day turtles.

  • Really tired now, I have been working and helping dd3 and her husband do some decorating before they move in their new house on Saturday, feeling my age!!

Anyway had a spendy day today, did some shopping at Ald@ and was pleased with the amount of veggies I managed to get and I didn't realise they sold quorn products either anyway told dd about my bargains and she has been shopping there for a few months!!! Also put fuel in the car and bought a cs blouse for a £1 I didn't realise that cs have sales too.

So off to bed now and babysitting and decorating continues tomorrow, I'll be glad when they are finally in.

The man on the phone made pretty much no sense.

But what he said was that he charges me the estimated interest which was £52.38 but then once the month is up, he will pay my credit card back the unused interest. My dad says interest on £9 would be something like 40p.
I tried to explain to the guy that the credit card account was closed so he couldn't refund the money to it. But he didn't really understand (might be the accent, my scottish accent is sometimes difficult to understand), I got really frustrated as he just kept repeating himself. Then he said that I should get a letter telling me my account is closed and how much I have to pay... but the letter told me my account is closed and to phone to get my final balance.
    :wall:

So I handed the phone to my dad and the guy explained it all again. My dad then explained just what I had said... but the guy just didn't understand what we were saying.
Completely gave up at this point and my dad ran out of patience... so basically he said we would pay the money but he was getting rid of his BoS card as well as they have made something incredibly simple incredibly complicated.
I will stress that my dad was lovely to the guy and said to him several times that he understood that he was only doing his job but that my dad was very disappointed with the company.
    :undecided

So... we have paid the £50... which then made me £49 short of my target (I have been saving really hard to save enough to get my credit card below £3000 and I had just made it to the magic number).
So, I was really quite gutted and had a wee cry thinking about this evil company and their nasty setback... but then my mum came down to visit and she said that dad is offering me £50 just so that I can do what I had planned to do. Next month, I will pay it back. She said that my dad is really proud of how hard I am trying to pay off the debt and is quite surprised at how strict I am being with myself.
I have told her that it is all thanks to this thread. Call me smushy but I am so glad I found this thread and this lovely group of people who are teaching me so much. Thank you all.

  • Aahhh....thank you Stewby...i feel the same way guys. It's amazing how less lonely and sad the debt makes me since I found you all. Stewby, I hope all is not lost. Maybe it will be like a utility balance when you close accounts, so you get a cheque refunding overpayment? Even if your account is closed, it's number etc doesn't get re-allocated. I'd be tempted to write and cc in the ombudsman - even if the money pops up, they have still treated you badly! I'm sorry that a date that should be so good...the card is shut! Is actually proving such a nightmare. Your doing just great with your money saving sweetheart, you must be proud that your folks are noticing your self discipline! Hang in there and hold your nerve on the cc front!
  • Morning everyone! I am happy to report that I now have a debit card and am greatly hoping that this one won't be lost, stolen or have to be cancelled! In celebration I was (finally) able to give myself my "out of debt treat" that I'd promised myself - two kindle books I've really been wanting. So not a SFD yesterday but I did get an exercise session in. SFD today hopefully and another lunchtime walk - glorious october weather for it!

    Groceries: £49.23/ £150 (till 15th October)

    Fuel: £0/40 (till 15th October)

  • Hi folks, I am pretty much on track this week, 2SFDs and 2 evening walks done. I have a very stressful couple of days at work coming up starting today as we have a sort of mini inspection so today I will allocate lunchtime as time to get out and have a walk.

Stewby - so frustrating when people don't listen to you, I know how it feels. I hope you get your £50 back.

  • Hi all...

Sorry again for lack of presence again this month - I'm writing September off... I'm not sure where I went wrong but I just lost all track and motivation for everything... Not got myself more in debt but just not been in the zone with regards to budgeting. Ran out of cash about half way through the month and been scrimping since... horrible feeling having nothing but a jar of 1ps, 2ps and 5ps to buy things with lol.

Anyway... Pay day Friday, so over the weekend I will work out my budget afresh.

    Hugs all x

Hugs abundant I felt like that beginning of the month your are so close now keep at it.

Stewby boo hiss to horrid credit card companies, would do a letter of complaint what have you to lose?

Another night collecting grandson, we are now moving onto Father Christmas questions whilst shooting me with his Buzz lightyear gun(has soft balls) No one told me Grandma duties were this tricky.

Bedrooms look great, I am really happy with the carpets still bit more stuff to move tonight, got distracted clearing knicker and sock drawers out - omg call me Mothernerd now !

I have no veg in at all, freezer, cupboards bare emergency veg shop on way home. Lilt don't think I would qualify for Sainsbobs code as not a first time shopper, making do with Lidl for now anyway. I find if I start an order with them and don't complete it usually offer discount code via e mail. Otherwise may have a go.

Cold here today, put leggings on but kept sandals on, trying to make the most of last of summer.
