HMRC accepted my appeal for the late return (it was when I was at my worst with the RA before diagnosis) and they have refunded my £100 penalty:beer::j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:beer:

Just caught up on your posts.......pants to the RA. I went from hardly ever seeing a doc one year to the next to being a frequent flyer at the local hospital..............it knocked me sideways for a bit but once I had made the mental readjustment that I wasn't, immortal, invincible, indestructible supermum/wife/colleague/friend I resigned to the rest of my life on repeat prescriptions and the odd bit of surgery to put things right ............at least prescriptions are free here
I am now an expert in my own autoimmune condition and ignore all the rest of the things that are packing up, whilst there are no symptoms. It all came at the same time of having a LBM with finances too
Lots of lemonade made since ( and gin and tonics and lemon drizzle cake :rotfl:) and a determination to live a long an full filled life from that moment on. I have threatened my children that I intend to get to 105 ! Now its not all been plain sailing: battles with the NHS, battles with work, and the battles with the family are partly my own fault I know as I keep going and dont give in easily and certainly cant stand sympathy from them so they sometimes forget that the condition is for life, but I am beginning to find some sort of equilibrium. I have removed a lot of 'unnecessary' from my life - people, things, events, activities and it has given me a lot more head space and time
My 2 closet friends have life long autoimmune disorders, diagnosed in child hood - and they have been an inspiration but as they say its easy for them as they dont know anything else and I think therein lies the tale. When it hits you in later adult life its hard to accept and make those adjustments
NOA you are strong person. This is just one of those lemon scented curve balls that I am sure you will deal with effectively. Take time for your self and make sure those around you know exactly how to support you.....and when to leave you alone!!

Hi BoB:) Back again after 9 days away, with a welcome back cake made by DS/DD which I was too exhausted to try. They had even hoovered and tidied/hoovered the whole house for my return, nad said that it must be me who is the "messy" one.......apparently it stayed tidy while I was away?:rotfl:

Hi Igamogam, Thanks for your support, and sharing your experience and sorry that you are dealing with similar health issues (which I would have read about when I first joined and started reading diaries but have since forgotten). It's remembering to pace myself that is the hardest, and adjusting will take time as you say, haven't reached an equilibrium yet. I Haven't told my parents yet, don't want to give them any more to worry about, and also couldn't stand the constant questions asking how I am etc. So at the moment only 2 siblings know and 2 don't because I haven't seen them since Christmas and telephone conversations revolve around them and their families. There are two other close friends that know, one who helps me with my volunteer work, and the other caught me at a down time when I was feeling quite sorry for myself. This might need to change soon, but I'm trying to leave it as long as possible. Don't want their to be any issues with part time work yet - need the money
Can't see myself going back to fulltime work after DS leaves home now...will need to have a rethink of long term priorities. Kids and DH have been great so far.
The thing that is upsetting me the most at the moment is not being able to do anything in the garden (fingers and wrists very weak) That is where I found my moments of peace before so I have to find a way round that.
NOA
