    Hi

A really interesting question would arise in the case of a 'yes' vote .... what would happen to the all of the current Scottish MPs?.

It seems to me that Westminster, with all of it's issues, is at least populated with politicians with considerably more experience of actual national governance than MSPs, which (from the outside) seem to have had little more political exposure and responsibility than average county councillors. As such, in the case of separation, I would certainly expect that a good proportion of the disenfranchised ex-Westminster crowd to be parachuted in by their respective parties to stand for SP seats ....

Of course, if this was to happen, where would the 'Nationalist' vote go - after all, the main raison d'etre of the nationalist movement would have been fulfilled, therefore it's likely that the political map would morph towards a more traditional split of Labour, Liberal & Tory ....

I find it quite ironic that, despite all of the nationalist political rhetoric on this, a majority 'yes' vote could actually be the first step towards returning a Conservative led Scottish government .... who'd have thought ???? ...

Ah well, such is the beauty of leaving emotion aside when looking in from the outside ...

His record is pretty good when compared with other politicians. His mandate was to delivered a referendum and he's kept that promise too.

That's about all though. Other than that he's totally misjudged the UK's stance.
  • Reports emerging on the BBC that there has been a poll today that puts the YES vote at 51% and the NO vote at 49%

    Worrying times.

Referendum number two? ah, the one about the EU!;)

Spain gets 25% of its fish catch in Scottish waters and Belgium has the HQ of the bloated EU bureaucracy. Give it the body-swerve and get that other outfit in Geneva to look after Scotland's interests.

Greece? really? has it a breakaway region?[/QUOTE

Apologies, My mistake, I was thinking of Macedonia and Turkish Cyprus. As for the 2nd referendum and if the vote is close, I believe the SNP, if elected with a majority, will pursue another independence vote. Surely a Scottish yes vote could encourage the Catalans and the Basques to purse a vote of their own?
  • I think it's a really bad idea, however there is part of me which would really love to see a Yes vote and see how this pans out. Think it would be absolutely fascinating. Especially to see who will go through with their threats.

Expect common sense to prevail in the end though with a 43-57 No vote.

Indeed, not to mention other intangibles like the alarming, spiralling cost of nuclear decommissioning and maintenance of infrastructure.
Exactly. The national debt is like inflation, politicians have made it out to be less than it is. Which presumably would be good for Scotland if their share was calculated on the official deficit, rather than the real one. But presumably they would be responsible for their own future public sector pensions deficit, their own PFI deficits etc etc, rather than the official figure. So they could still end up paying the real cost.
There are so many unknown factors here that even if you knew the result of the election in advance, you still wouldn't know how it will affect markets.

We cant know but surely markets/the pound/house prices in Scotland will substantially weaken with a yes vote and probably show a small increase in comparison with a no vote?

I mean look at this for house prices for one http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/scottish-independence/11076072/House-buyers-insist-on-No-vote-clause-for-Scottish-purchases.html

Should probably sue her for fraud or false advertising or something if its a yes vote and SNP make a cut afterwards.

No cuts- never? That is not a reasonable claim to make for any politician- even when in control of their own currency.

As no one in an independent Scotland would have any say on future rUK monetary policy it would be only a matter of time until that promise was broken.
