Spoke to Tesc0 today re overpayments, transpires that I have to make a minimum of £1k for lump sums or could set any amount as regular. I have decided to re-look at tilly tidying the account to save to £1k, I have got £18.29 in the pot so far.

Had a few days away- joined my family in the Lakes, was lovely! Have also been a bit spendy- all covered by the 'other' account. Have bought the chickens an 0mlet cover for the roof of the run after second tarp was ripped off in the wind, these are costly but fit better and have a guarantee. So far so good! Have bought a super king mattress- £350 and free delivery. Very happy with this! Dogs had a check up and were vacinated- £115. Kennels- £48- deposit had already been paid. And then socialising stuff has also been going on!

My tax code seems wrong for my second zero hour contract job, woman on the phone said it was all 20% tax- umm how is taking almost half of my earnings on tax 20%?! Very strange, she has changed the codes and said if I had overpaid this would be refunded. Annoying! No way am I ever going to earn near the 40k mark for 40% tax!

Feeling good, not quite 10 am and have chased up two big things on the list!

Also, have realised that I am being charged 40% on the second agency job and have been for past three pays, there is no way I am going to earn anything like £40k a year!! So will be ringing tomorrow to try and sort this out.

I might be talking out of my hat here but could it be that if you are working for more than one employer [Agency] you are classed as having a second job? AFAIK tho its a while since I was in this position, your tax allowance is 'attached' to one job - your main employment and then any other work you do gets taxed at the higher rate.
  • A lot of our agency staff would turn hemselves into limited companies to avoid this/ and other tax .... then pay a family member to do admin for tuppence ha'penny tax
I did think that has been stopped now, although I did ask and agency staff the other day who said they have to form and umbrella company if not on PAYE … not sure how it works in reality

Hi teapot! Thanks for popping over! It should be one job gets the tax relief and the second is charged at 20% with no relief, since trying to clarify this, £40.50 was taken off as extra tax on main agency job...will wait and see other job!

Hey MFD, as a Nurse I am lucky that I am employed via an agency, so dont need to become my own company! This makes life a lot easier for me, they sort out all payments etc, I am on their payrolls! I have a family member in another area and they have become a limited company as they had no choice!

Got 46 hours this week and next, this will cover my week off last week and have £100 left after this months pay and sending money to the hubby and credit card.

This month should be less spendy than January so far, I am taking on a frugal type view on this month. Though I do need decent trainers for a 20mile walk and trainers for work, they are the most comfortable on a long day. Just need to keep those spends down as much as possible. We are reducing takeaways to once every 2 weeks, this is for health and money!

So my Frugal February is actually starting from today, running pay day to pay day!

Have a couple of big birthdays coming up this year, baby sister is 21 and bestie is also having a big birthday. Want to make sure I have savings for these, and for hubbys birthday and Christmas this year. Seems a little overwhelming at times! I used to have plenty of savings! I will get there again!

I found the Fugalw00ds website, they are hardcore frugal and right now I am not ready to go that hardcore, yup I will be keeping amaz0n and netfLix at this time....but I am hoping to learn more about my spending and ways to improve!

They do a month of frugal where if you join up they send you an email daily, asking questions etc. So the first question is why- I now have unpredictable work, two big expensive- even with all the efforts in the world- holidays, and I want to not feel pressure! I want to get back in control of my money, make it work for me and save to get a buffer for myself and get myself out of the debt I built up over the last four months! I have never had personal debt before so this is a shocker! I get £500 per month for fuel, car insurance, shopping and any other bits, I will spend this most months and having nothing left. This month I have £100 saved toward my buffer and send £1125 to the house account and holiday fund. I want that £500 to go further, especially as I pay for 2/3 shops out of the month and we are only two people! Reading through the first blog there are more questions that need answering and things that I need to look at which I will- I am in the middle of a 46hour week which ends Saturday at 8pm- roll on!

Day 2 was about long term goals, I guess this would be around not needing to work full time, need to think about this more. Day 3, anything you want to buy has to wait 72 hours if it is not essential, thats ok, I can definately do that! Its meant to help with reducing impulse buying and riding out the desire. Havent spent any moolah since pay day, so 3 NSDs. Tonight I will shop but its hubbys turn!

Day 4 is about stopping payments for things you donrt need and investing the money to earn on it, easy concept to understand! I'm still not ready to be rid of prlme and flix yet, haha.

Day 5 and 7 is about getting the food shop right and not wasting food, I feel I could make some dents here!!

Day 6, all about making sure you are getting the best deals etc, I like to think I am pretty good at this!! Shop around for deals, but am poor at tracking day to day small spends!

Am full of a cold, well, partly full of a cold, urgh. Finally, all the sickness has caught up with me, hoping my immune system will make quick work of it! Finished my 46hour week last night, then little dog preseded to vomit on and off all night, he was shaking and very sad so very poor nights sleep. Keeping a close eye on him today, he is very tired, only given him a teeny bit of food to eat just in case!

Wind is terrible here today. Decided to leave the chickens in, safe where they are in the run! 0mlet seems to be holding up against the wind so far. Good day for watching cheap films bought off prlme!

Hope you don't get a full blown lurgy Jodles, I guess long weeks at work and being in close contact with lots of folk via work doesn't help?

Hope wee dog is better too, horrible when they are poorly :(

    Have a better week!

Thanks teapot! I have managed to fight off full blown lurgy, very pleased with that!haha. But you are correct, I am around lots of coughs, cold and infections!

Ended up with big dog getting unwell the next day, just as little dog was getting better, she was poorly for a few more days than him, but both are well now! Thank goodness!

Just finished four long days, having a restful day today, then going on a 10mile walk tomorrow, urgh! But need to do some real prep for the 20mile walk at the end of March!

Spending has been ok, shopping was really expensive again- £85 for the two of us. Really need to get into gear about this!

It is lovely to see that capital is more than interest!
