You get £5 a month when you spend £300 if you have (or had when you applied for the card) a Halifax current account.
Hidden in the T&Cs:11.2 To be eligible for the reward set out in condition 11.1, you must, at the time you enter into this agreement:-
(a) hold a Halifax current account and pay in £1,000 or more each month;
(b) use our switching service to move your current account to a Halifax Current Account and agree to pay in £1,000 or more each month;
(c) open or hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account.
When I applied I didn't have a current account with them but still get the reward. I have previously had an account with them which I switched in, so I guess that's also sufficient.0 -

Dj1471 - could you tell me where you found the link you posted? I've just been looking at the Clarity card on the Halifax website and can't find any mention anywhere about the £5 cash back offer.
If it does still offer the £5 for a £300 spend, this will probably be Amazon replacement card. Rather annoyed if the offer no longer stands, as I had one of these cards a few years ago but closed it, probably because I was using my amazon card more!!0 -

Google found it, it's actually linked from credit card information page (near the top).
When I took the card out there was no mention of the reward payment at all, actually I was surprised to see it on my statement and it took a while to figure out what it was and why I was getting it!
As it's still in the current T&Cs it seems to be available to new customers.0 -
Ah yes I see! Fantastic stuff, thanks for sharing this
looks like it's back to halifax clarity for me then.

Likewise. I've still got the Halifax card, it's one of my many legacy cards I only use (for some trivial purchase) when they tell me they're about to close the account for inaction. Nice to have tens-of-thousands in instant credit available, should I ever need it, from all them plastic cards sitting in my drawer! Similarly I'll probably keep the MBNA card unless they start making an annual charge for it.
I wait to see what Amazon does next. I'll bet they come up with something.
Tens of thousands in instant credit....You're not planning to go on a massive shopping spree before emigrating to a Caribbean country where they can't find you by any chance?DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!

Shadowdogg,
Same problem here. And asked the same question the other week...... and got the same reply, i.e. not much other than get an Amex which isn't going to happen.
As far as I can tell (maybe someone can correct me) if your criteria are:
1) MCard/Visa only, no Amex.
2) No annual fee
3) 1% cash back (or some points scheme that's nearly as good)
then you have a choice of none!
Me, no Amex because of the outrageous fees they charge the merchants - at the end of the day nothing is really free so the merchants have to pass on the costs as higher prices somewhere in the mix.
No fee because that is the start on a slippery slope - banks desperately want to charge a fee for all cards and I reckon 'good deals' are more a Trojan Horse - get people used to paying for cards, get it the norm then downgrade/erode the benefits/goodies attached. Sorry if I sound paranoid about banks' true intentions but, just because I don't believe a word they say, doesn't mean I'm wrong.
Anyway, rant aside, I can't find anything. Best I can find is a Capital One card, 0.5% cashback but 35%ish interest rate so only for someone who clears the whole balance every month, no miss. Or the Select Credit Card from Nationwide. 0.5% cashback, 16%ish interest rate though I'll still pay the whole balance each and every - downside is you have to have a Nationwide Flex-account, i.e. a current account, which is active (£750/£1000 a month credited I think is how they count that).
Being a Nationwide customer anyway that's the way I'll be going... until something better comes along. Plus there's no foreign exchange loading if you use the card in the EU as a credit card (as a cash card there are fees - don't do it) and they chuck in 'free' European travel insurance - pretty basis and almost worthless to me as it doesn't cover skiing or other 'dangerous' activities, only covers you, no one else in your party and is EU only. I always seem to end up having to buy travel insurance anyway as those conditions are too restrictive and, each time I've checked, the cost to upgrade the Nationwide insurance is way more than buying similar independent cover.
If you find anything that genuinely is 1% without the huge tie-ins/compromises (the Amazon was fine for me as I do buy stuff from Amazon now and again anyway) please pipe up.
Good luck.0 -

Have anyone tried the Asda credit card? I couldn't find any feedbacks about it in the forums.- 1% cashback on your Asda shopping & Asda fuel

Has anyone called Amazon to see if they have a new card coming out?
Surely some card places must be falling over themselves to get associated with Amazon.0 -

Just a matter of waiting then. The forced contractual delay will be costing the bank that's taking over a lot of potential new customers.0
