  • I have just given 30 days notice to quit BT phone and broadband, but as I am still in contract, they have informed me that I will have to pay £144.
I pointed out that the e-mail I received regarding the price increases, had the paragraph informing me that I can leave "giving us 30 days' notice to avoid incurring early termination charges"
I have 2 months left to run on the annual line rental saver and 8 months on my fibre BB, so I hope the line saver part will be refunded.
I was told that the MAC code would be with me within 7 days which may be too late for the Topcashback Plusnet payment, as it expires in 4 days.
Can I move to Plusnet without a MAC code?

    Cheers

    Hope may not be enough.

Given that they already tried it on with you by telling you if you leave you must pay them £144, then "hope" may not be enough.

It would be better to get on to them and request a refund, then escalate a complaint if they refuse.

Are they saying the £144 charge is for fibre BB, can they charge you for your advanced line rental that you have already paid anyway?

  • My BT line rental saver and my BT infinity 1 came up for renewal. My Infinity 1 would have gone up immediately to £21.04 (currently at £18) and then to £23 something in December. The only problem is no one in the house wanted to leave BT. The service has been really good the entire year. My DH and Mum use the Internet for live streaming of cricket and all sorts of "soap" videos. So hadn't much choice in switching. However I managed to negotiate an upgrade to BT infinity 2 for £20 fixed for 18 months and also paid the line rental saver of £159 something. I was told paying upfront will not be affected with the price increase in Dec.

    They are not quite correct.

Price rises come in from Dec 1st. This includes an increase to line rental saver. (If you pay up front now, then you won't have to pay the increased rate till next October)

I think they are saying that the £144 is the balance left to pay for the 13ish months remaining of the Fibre Broadband.
My annual line rental has been paid up to and including December.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough. They said I will NOT be affected by the price hike. As you said I will pay the increased price for the line rental only after next October.

Not for your already paid line rental saver. Only after the period ends, if you renew it, will you be paying the line rental saver based on the increased price.
