So does this make Zen the only ISP that doesn't actually arrange new connections?

    NO !!!

    "New phone line installations

If you require a new phone line to be installed or your phone line isn’t working then call our Sales team on 01706 902000 who will be happy to help. Connection time is usually around 10 working days but can be less."

I've not yet had any communication regarding the price increase, but I've just called and as far as they care concerned the price increase does not allow me to cancel my contract early.

After some pushing apparently I can call to "opt out" of the price increase and stay on my current tariff - but only in December.

Is there some communication from BT that I can quote regarding early termination in this situation?

Called again and was told yes, I can cancel - but I need to call back on the 3rd as thats when all the details come through.

Called today and was told that yes I can cancel without penalty, but I have to either transfer to another provider (using a MAC code) or I have to pay a £36.95 "removal fee". So if I want to stick with BT but on an alternate tariff - I have to pay, disconnect and then wait for a reconnection.

    Doesn't sound right to me.

EDIT - Called again to get my MAC code. Got offered a killer retentions deal I've gone for instead (£5.65 rising to £6 per month after December, 12 month contract, unlimited broadband - which I currently pay £16 (soon £17) for!).
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

so if i understand this correctly, once i receive the letter regarding price hike, i can call BT and ask for my MAC without penalty? or is it i tell them this is their 31 day notice of termination and then ask for my MAC. will i need a mac if i go with Sky?

Came to ask the very same thing. Can anyone clarify?

    Very encouraging.

Edited to add, did you have notice from BT already, or just from sites like MSE? As I would like to leave ASAP (poor service) and this seems like a very good reason, but it'd be typical I wont hear until the last possible minute if I leave it to BT.
  • For what it's worth I spent about 25 minutes talking to BT today and they offered a deal to stay that came with a 12 month contract but saves something like £15 a month for my package.

Alternatively they said I could indeed request a MAC code without penalty if I say it's due to the price increases (I'm in contract).

I haven't received the letter, but called, asked for my MAC, was told i could have it but then took a retentions deal instead.

Has anyone actually received the letter / e-mail from them yet?
