MSE News: BT to announce price hikes this weekend

I tried calling on Saturday but was told that they couldn't do anything until I get the formal notification and that this hasn't been sent out yet. However, they did confirm that once this comes through, I can request my MAC and transfer over to another provider without penalty (as long as I notify them within 30 days of receiving the notification).
They need to provide 30 days' notice of the price rise, so I suspect that they'll hold back on the formal e-mails / letters until late October, by which point most people will have stopped looking out for it!0 -
Has anyone actually received the letter / e-mail from them yet?BT_Website wrote:How are you telling people about the price increases?
We'll be notifying every customer personally during September and October 2014
Notification will either be via Update magazine, included with bills, or emails and letters
If you haven't heard from us before 31 October then it's likely your prices aren't changing, but you can always call and check at that time.
What if I'm unhappy with the price rises?
We're sorry that you're unhappy about how the price rises affect you. We'd rather you stayed with BT as we believe we offer fantastic services and products.
However, if you contact us within 30 calendar days of receiving your personal notification you may cancel your services without penalty.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

Alternatively they said I could indeed request a MAC code without penalty if I say it's due to the price increases (I'm in contract).
Completed this yesterday. Called back, confirmed could leave without penalty and my MAC is on its way.0 -
Going to leave BT for Zen when my current line rental saver comes to an end. I had to read BT's recent email several times to make sense of what they were trying (and IMO failing) to say - e.g. Line Rental Plus which they seem to associate only with non Direct Debit customers in the text.
I recall last year there were some stupid hoops to jump through just to retain Caller ID for goodness sake. Nothing ever seems to be clear with them, and it's the same on their over-complicated website.

I received the price increase email last night and called BT this morning and they offered a retention deal that was pence off what Plusnet were offering, so I stayed with BT.0

Today's the day I leave.
BT email me telling me I will be charged for outstanding contract line-rental (a further £70 or so) for leaving early!
Currently asking online assistant for clarity and to ensure this is a mistake....
edit
...BT assistant says yes it's an error and they will monitor final bill and re-credit any extra line-rental and such (early termination fees) BEFORE the money leaves my account.
Let's hope I'm not on here soon again as you'll know it's gone wrong if I am!0 -
Just got this in an email:
What you'll pay
You'll need to pay about £59 for stopping your BT services. This includes:
Charges for ending your contract early - Because you're stopping your service before the end of your contract, you'll need to pay about £59 for the remaining months.
We'll see0 -
I've had the email today outlining the increase in line rental etc. I pay in advance, no mention of that price in the email but the web link says you can get 12 months for price of 10. Still a big amount compared to the Post Office offering as an example.
I also made the mistake of letting my broadband contract and annual line rental get out of sync by 6 months (clever of BT sales when offering me a deal in the past). My line rental expires in December, Broadband in June.
If I take the 30 day offer would I have to write off my Oct & Nov line rental?
BT for a yr = £170 Line Rental + £192 BB = £362.
Postoffice for a year = £276.
Think I'll quit if I can even if I walk away from 2 months line rental. Are others thinking similar?0 -
I've paid in advance for my line rental. Am I still able to cancel without penalty? Will I get any refund for the 5 months remaining on the prepaid line rental?0
