  • So envious here as I'm stuck in a commuter town - I'd love to move back to Wales - maybe one day....

Eight years ago I was an atrocious cook, I even struggled to slice cheese:rotfl:

That made me spill tea over my keyboard :rotfl:
Hi there JoJo - just wanted to say congrats :) You are doing what I have wanted to do for soooo long :)
I live in Wales too - Bridgend area but one day I will live in Oxwich Bay near Rhosselli, we have seen our dream house there, just need the Million £'s to buy it lol!
Enjoy your new found lives and freedom :D
    Much love,
    Jenny x

Hoping to be living very near to there too - what is your plan for getting hold of the millions needed? :rotfl:

On a more annoying note, vacuum cleaner number 3 has decided that it no longer wishes to function for me. Please don't think 'OMG she can't even operate a cleaner, there is no hope.' It is purely that we are doing extensive renovation work and these high tech vacuums are allergic to plaster dust.

Just been listening to radio 2 & bizarrely a new law comes in on September 1st restricting the wattage of new vacuum cleaners. Several people phoned in saying they were going to but at least 2 more before then, so you may want to get a move on. Cleaners already made & in warehouses/shops can still be sold, but no idea how many are still in the system. Quite funny to hear how irate some people can get.....
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

have you put new filter in the vacumn cleaners?

And with respect to Mr jo-jos clothes, check out your local charity shops; if only for clothes to wear when doing DIY. Not least because if his weight is dropping it might change again, up or down and it would be a pity to spend more than necessary until it stabilises.

Finally, I have no choice but to buy Mr JoJo a new wardrobe. With all the hard work he has being doing his waistband his drastically reduced. Never a bad thing. However watching him mopping the floor with his disobedient trousers round his ankles is to much for my eyes on a Friday afternoon. Although he said people pay good money to see that sort of thing. Hmmmmm not so sure about that.

Plaster dust is so invasive it gets everywhere. Maybe drop your standards for a little while until it's all done and try to use a dustpan and brush for the bulk of it. I'd let you have our new hoover if you weren't so far away. Mine sounds like a Jumbo jet on take off!!

As for the trouser incident I seem to remember seeing a programme on Channel 4 about ladies making lots of money using web cams perhaps you should have a camera ready next time it happens there may be a little business opportunity there for you! :rotfl::rotfl:

Anyway what a marvellous opportunity-enjoy it. Embrace your inner Barbara Good and keep us posted on your progress. Before you know it you'll be eating nettle soup and keeping chickens!

  • Cooking and gardening are big new skills- don't expect to become proficient overnight. With cooking I would concentrate first on one basic dish, like soup or pastry, that can be adapted in multiple ways.

It may sound obvious, but plant veg that you actually like eating.

Henry hoovers are fab for dirty jobs, mine has reached the ripe old age of 18 and has cleaned up after lots of renovation jobs, and regularly hoovers the chimneys out, hubby occasionally blows the filters out with his compressor, and when he finally dies i will be buying another the same

Not so obvious. 3 or 4 summers ago hubby bought himself a greenhouse with good intentions of growing his own produce. Unfortunately the only things that grew well were lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes..... but moaned at me when I gave him salad.:(

I posted on the Food shopping board last night asking if anyone knew a good substitute for Ecover laundry powder, no replies as yet, probably because it's a bit of a conundrum. My inner domestic goddess likes the eco friendly part, and the fact it is kind to sensitive skin. It also gets stuff clean and is not heavily perfumed. However, my MSE tight-waddery baulks at the price. Any ideas?

Re the Hoover - I ended up getting a karcher DIY vacuum to see me through my renovations and it has been well worth it. Get two filters so you can change it if you need to Hoover up wet stuff as it needs drying out before you can use it again for dry.

Good luck with your adventures. I am currently picking apples and plums. Most are being stewed (using a thermal bag cooker) with some apples juiced (juice is frozen not pasteurised) and some turned into cider...
