Quick bit of info i dont think was mentioned here yet, Orange was voted the worst ISP by BBC's watchdog programme, and there is also a website dedicated to the fact that its rubbish http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk

Trust me avoid like the plauge

Nice first post squibo, and welcome to the forum.

I fear your advice will fall on deaf ears though, it seems lots of members are not too bothered about signing a 2 year contract with one of the worst ISP's in the UK.

No doubt they will be back here whinging about the lack of service from Orange in a short while.

I've been with Wanadoo / Orange for three years and have always found their service to be perfectly acceptable, certainly no problems worth mentioning. There are many providers far worse than Orange. If you don't want mega fast, mega download connections then you could do far worse. I manage very very well with a 2 meg connection, thank you.

As for the Laptop, I'm using one of a similar to spec to the free one, and have been for over 12 months. It is perfectly acceptable for Internet use. I would probably stump up the extra £20 for the next one up - for the extra RAM and WiFi.

If I weren't already with Orange, I'd sign up immediately. I'm perfectly happy with their service.

The problem is though when you get problems... who fixes them and how long does it take, what is the tech support number, also commiting to a 2 year contract?? Yes you have been lucky but not everyone is as lucky as you...

No such thing as a free lunch. Just think the wholesale price of broadband (IPStream) is around £8 plus support and the datatransfer for around £9.50 in total (exluding support) * 24 = £228 cost to them. Thats excluding router / modems so wholsale price another £20 then again that just short of £250.

So if you never contact them then it costs them £250 and they are giving you a free laptop??? yes the wholesale price must be about £150ish because of the very low spec (my 3 year old laptop is nearly double the spec) but still it just does not make sence --- How can a company make money through this?

Ive been wondering about this offer for a couple of days now. I have found out that you can get 3months half price broadband 1499/2mb and 20/8meg.

However i rung orange up and they said you can tell pc world that you only want an 18month contract. the lady i spoke to at orange said, ppl like myself are being put off with 24months so they can offer 18 but will not shout about it.

BT tells me that orange have come worst in a number of surveys, and that the laptops are not wirless enabled.

    still thinking.

can anybody tell me how i just put on a new post thing
  • I rang Orange and asked about this. You can cancel your current contract, wait 10 days, and if the offer is still on, resubscribe as a new customer. Risk is the offer might not be on in 10 days time. What I'm doing is signing a new contract on a different phone number (I'm using a fax line at work, you could perhaps use a friend or relatives phone number?) This leaves me with two contracts for a while. Once the new line is up and running I cancel the old contract, wait 10 days for the old line to become free, then ring Orange and move my new contract to the old phone line as if I have moved house.
  • Sign up for £14.99 for 24 months and save £300 on a laptop (prices from £300+)

    Exactly, the same story told by so many Orange customers, take a look here for users comments;

    http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php

Note they are rated the 2nd worst ISP in the list.
