Who in their right mind would want to get stitched in to Orange for 2 years?

Orange = Lemon in the world of Broadband.
  • am i missing something - stuck on one server ?
    meaning telephone provider ?

if you have any (normal) telephone line (ie BT)
you can choose any bb service you like...

Here in Hull we cannot use any other broadband server other than Hull's own server. Does this mean we are excluded from the Curry's laptop deal? That does not seem fair! - Dave

2gb not enough what world are you living in! I admit 256mb will be poor but it will get alot of people by, especially if only for the internet. I refurbish several laptops, lots of them only Pentium 3 and less than 200mb mem, with fresh OP installations they run a dream and lots of people can get by on that.

I do get where your coming from (my lappy has just over 1gig, PLENTY) but for some this would be adequate, obvisouly if you want to be playing the latest lord of the rings, video editing or whatever don't bother, simple really.

As user1234 said. its a 2gb limit on downloads I was talking about. I would have thought that the laptop used shared memory for graphics - the rest of the series use 128mb shared. It will run like a dog.

I think the point I am trying to make still stands, look carefully at the laptop - consider upgrading or going for one of the other laptops that require the cash top up on the free offer

one thing i will say about broadband speed it doesnt matter what company you are with if your telephone line is an old one changing your provider wont make any difference as it will still only let you go at the speed the line can handle even if i went with orange at 8mb speed i know my phoneline will only let it go as fast as 2mb as our lines havent been updated for a while

We have normal phone lines, but provided by Kingston Communications.
BT will not provide a phone service in the Hull area. So stuck with
    Karoo as an ISP.

This sounds like a good deal for my mum who has no internet and no computer. For £15 a month she gets to go on the net with a free laptop, the 2mb / 2gb is a bit low but plenty for the kind of things she will be doing e.g online shopping and basic browsing.

Does anyoe know the full spec of the laptop for which you pay an extra £150 for ? cant seem to find it on there site ?

Also, what happens if you go over the 2gb allowance. I was with Orange Unlimited and they closed my accound because I was using 70GB a month bandwidth which was breaking the fair use policy.

Would it be alright for general Internet use (No gaming or photo's etc)?

I'd say it would be fine although i'd put a bit more RAM in it just to be on the safe side, 1GB will cost you less that 30 quid at crucial
