    Thanks

The good thing at the moment is that I am the only Full-Time cook, so I am in a very good position currrently, also all the employees are on ZHC's except Managers & everyone does at least 5 days a week (roughly 35 hours a week), so the fact that it is ZHC is really irrelevant in this case, as I don't know 1 employee who has had a 0 hours week, so really its just a way for the company to find a loophole if the custom goes tits up really, but the hours are there if I want them (which I do)

I have asked about doing 6 days a week (instead of 5, which would bump my hours up to at least 40 per week) & the manager said he wants to give me a few more weeks to settle in then he will give me 6 days a week, if i want it

The manager seem really happy with my progress in the short amount of time I have been there (3 weeks) & seems to want me to do all the hours I can

don't forget to claim for working tax credits if you are eligible, single over 25 years and you should get around £50 a week extra.

Firstly, congrats on the job mate. ZHC or not, it's a job and gives the potential of becoming full time and better career progression than not having a job at all, admittedly ZHC isn't ideal but a job is a job.

Secondly, if you're serious about becoming a chef, I've been a chef since leaving school, don't worry about catering college so much, I know a lot of chefs that went to college and a lot that didn't, if you can find a commis chef position locally in a decent hotel/restaurant you can build a career without the qualifications, a lot of companies will put you through the course too if they see potential and a new career has started. :)

Not an easy industry though. Im sure you know that, but PM me if I can help in any way with advice

I am in a relationship & I looked online and it said I could get £90 a week, so I have sent the application form off to see what they say

  • Just to update all of you

I had a chat with my manager today & he said that he wants me to learn all areas of the restaurant, so I have more variety in my job & the manager can give me different shifts (Cook, Middle & Till, I am currently only a cook), also once I have learnt all the areas I will get an extra 10p per hour, lol

I still have not had to use my bike (Which is good as its broken) as I have finished on time to catch the last bus, so been lucky so far, lol

So everything is going good for me at the moment (Could possibly do with some more money, lol)

That is normal for working in KFC - about 25 years ago it was called "all star member" - I see nothing changed :)

Good you enjoy your job... :)
