Or read loads of threads on here where people swear blind something wasn't the case then someone sooner or later comes along and proves it was. Eg with me post about people claiming they never knew when a free trial would come to an end that they would get charged saying it was never mentioned then someone comes alone with screenshots proving the opposite.

So you're taking the fact that some people talk rubbish and extrapolating that across the whole user base.

Obviously there will be times when people post unbelievable stuff that's actually true, like when Wonga started to ask for online banking details!
    What will your verse be?

I went to my branch to withdraw some money last week and was asked for no ID they simply handed the money over no questions asked. So obviously I made a complaint and they said in the letter I received today that I had signed an acknowledgement slip when I withdrew the money but I distinctly remember not signing anything. The letter said that because my signature matched their records that they were confident the correct producedure had been followed. I strongly suspect that they have panicked and faked my signature. I have demanded to see a copy of this signature. It is worrying that your own bank can do this to you. Has this happened to any of you?

    I think you're probably a fantasist ;)

Where did this happen? What was the reason for the sacking?

    1. At a branch of the Halifax .

    2. As a result of the investigation of my complaint.

The vast majority of companies never give out results of disciplinary action. This seems very odd.

May well be, but they did.

How often do you go to that bank? Maybe they knew you by face if you're a regular there?

I understand your concerns and think that many people are missing the point here. If you were able to walk in and withdraw money without any form of authentication, then so would anybody if they found your lost card.

Exactly! I do not usually use that branch so the girl serving did not know me. I think a lot of you are not resding properly, I did not use a chip and pin to withdraw the cash, nor did I sign anything. I have asked to see a copy of this signature so then I will know if it is mine. I do not know how many of you can't see the issue here, IF I was to drop my card somewhere or leave it somewhere, anyone could take it, go into that branch and withdraw money from my account and that is my issue here. I don't know how people can't understand that. The main purpose of having a bank account is so your money is kept safe. Security should be banks paramount concern.

Says the guy posting on this forum on a Friday night!

Not that there's anything wrong with that... but it's kinda hypocritical given what you've just said.

Yes I love how so many people on these forums jump to conclusions about the people posting. You know nothing about me. I work full time so when stuff like this happens I don't really have time to pursue it! When it happened I was like "oh great something else to sort out and chase up". I see it as a serious complaint and a serious breach of security. I also agree with another poster that I can totally believe people in positions of power and authority covering their backsides when things go wrong and this is clearly what has happened here, I used to be an assistant manager in a store and I saw my own manager cover her mistakes all the time. Believe it or not it happens! My problem is the fact that my bank have lied to me over and over again. And they know I'm right as I have had £100 compensation from them as a result of all their lies. I always pursue complaints about my bank as they are so quick to demand money and continue to screw people over on a daily basis.

And you come to that conclusion how exactly?

I honestly do not know how people can't seem to accept the fact that banks make mistakes and cover their tracks. I love how everyone just assumes I have forgotten or I am mistaken just because I'm not a corporate giant.

If you're thinking of the bank as a single entity then it might seem ludicrous, but if you think about a single staff member with need of their job as they have mouths to feed.. it's not so ludicrous.

My point exactly! The young cashier serving has obviously panicked and rather than lose her job has forged my signature on a slip (probably her manager's idea) to save time and hassle and to save her job. I don't want anyone sacked, I just want them to realise that they have to security checks. I even stated in my complaint that it probably isn't the fault of their staff, but down to their lack of training by the company. So not such a ludicrous idea now is it!

I suspect some people decided you were on a "compensation quest" the moment they read " I wasn't asked for ID so naturally I complained". To you that action was a given -Not everyone sees it that way.
I've had a genuine compensation case with a bank. I complained about the delay in my debit card getting reissued and the complaints team responded within two days and informed me that when I had reported the unauthorized transaction on the card the person in their fraud team who took my initial call forgot to stop the card and when I called two days later to say there were more transactions it was cancelled then. They didn't need to tell me (my complaint was about the delay not the initial reporting process after all) and it left them without a leg to stand on with compensation so my experience is if a complaint is investigated properly the truth will come out. That said if a cashier didn't ask me for ID I'd ask them why they hadn't but wouldn't automatically or "naturally" complain. People are human and unlike the OP I'm not perfect and am capable of making mistakes myself too. However my own experience shows banks don't "cover their tracks". My local branch were actively encouraging me to complain in writing so I suspect they knew what had happened but weren't able to tell me.
