I totally get your point, a few years ago a member of my family had his wallet stolen, realised within 5 minutes and as he only had cards from one bank in it, he walked straight to the nearest branch (the same branch were he had originally opened the account), literally round the corner, but they had already withdrawn £900.
The bank had not made any checks whatsoever, they didn't have enough time to forge the signature properly.
He got the money back, but it was a nightmare to get them to close two accounts and open new ones, transferring all dd etc, it took them ages, they made mistakes, in the end he simply opened a new account at a different bank.

I am 100% certain I did not sign anything.

Yeah but we've all seen threads on here where people have signed up to free trials and absolutely adamant that nowhere did it say they will get charged if they don't cancel but when other people go and look it's blatantly obvious. I recon this is another one of those threads but just a different example. I bet the op did do something eg enter a pin or sign something she just can't remember and is now determined that she couldn't have.

they didn't have enough time to forge the signature properly.

Who didn't have time to forge the signature "properly"? What is a proper forgery of a signature? How was £900 paid when there was no signature? Or a forged signature? Who forged the signature? Are you saying the bank paid out even though the signature was wrong? Are you saying the bank forged the signature? But not completely, because they run out of time?
  • Got to love this complaining culture that we now live in.

When cashiers usually ask customers for ID, pin numbers etc, they are sometimes told "I've banked here for 50 years I don't need that". I once told how a customer was absolutely disgusted and never been so offended that he was asked to produce ID or show his debit card after just showing a cheque payable to cash.

You though on the other hand can't remember signing the slip so you've questioned it. Bank have checked the withdrawal slip, and it shows you did sign it. You still can't quite remember and won't take that as an answer and now probably want compensation no doubt. If you did enter your pin, and the amount wasn't too high, then signature is that necessary anyway imo, but as the bank stated you did sign it, then going on that you are not actually sure, you probably did.

I highly doubt the bank have sent you a letter stating you signed a signature if you haven't. As for them forging your signature, that again just seems a tad unrealistic.

I would remember if I had signed something. I am 100% certain I did not sign anything. I did not even get a receipt of acknowledgement. I basically walked into the branch handed over my card and asked to withdraw money. She took my card then gave me the money with my card and that was it. No questions asked. So I am accusing them of using my signature fraudulently. Yes I was given the correct money but for the bank to panic and then decide to fake my signature when I complained just so they don't get wrong is an absolute disgrace and very worrying! Banks are meant to be alert to fraud and theft. It is not good to know that basically if I lost my card or it was stolen any woman could basically walk into a branch and withdraw money from my account and my bank wouldn't bat an eyelid.

I dont work for a bank.

So how did the cashier manage to bypass the PIN being asked for ?

My posts seems to have confused you a little :D
You are mixing up the two posts, the OP is the one accusing his bank of forging a signature, I'm talking about thieves withdrawing money from a bank account, if the bank had checked their ID or signature properly they would have not given them the money.

I think you are right, and it might be because of what you posted.

Well, it was a bit confusing. In your scenario you say there wasn't time for the bank to forge the signature, which implies that signature forging is something that might/would/could have happened if there was more time.

In the context of the OP's story, where there was time to forge the signature, one could be forgiven for thinking that you believe forgery happened in this case.

As if they'd 'panic' and forge a signature. Ludicrous.
