I am currently on a sim only plan, which has unlimted calls, unlimted texts, 4GB of data.

I received a letter from TalkTalk today to say I have "unusually high usage from my mobile phone number"

Talktalk tells me "this can affect the performance of the service for others, as excessive usage can use up a large amount of network capacity".

I was a bit confused, as I assumed a package which is called unlimited, is that, but how wrong I am.

TalkTalk tells me as a reminder "your mobile plan is subject to our fair usage policy, which is as follows for unlimited plans:

3000 texts per month

2000 minutes per month

The letter tells me "to help avoid extra charges, you'll need to reduce the amount you use your mobile, so you stay within the fair useage policy"

I was so shocked. I telephoned talktalks customer service number and was told not to worry about the letter as it simply advises me to reduce.
I see, I dont have unlimited calls!!
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!

Exactly why I think the word 'unlimited' should be removed from the English dictionary. :-)

But your tariff should mention this fair usage policy and describe what is "fair", although usually figures are not mentioned.

Its clearly mentioned in the Terms and Conditions and points to a website that seems to be down for the actual policy limits.

Surely if there is a 2000 minute limit, it should be described (i.e sold) as 2000 minutes rather than mis-sold as unlimited - I reckon most 10 year olds could call that one! (That pun was accidental!) Come on Ofcom/ASA/TS get your fingers out!!!

OP try contacting Watchdog. That said how in hell do you use more than an hour a day on the phone every day?
Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!

I found it very useful, I discovered talktalk had the lowest thresh hold of 2000 talktalk minutes.

It seems most of the other companies also have this fair use policy. I don't think using my mobile just over an hour a day should be considered "excessive" Virgin is looking a bit more attractive.

my question is not about the T&C, but more of calling a package "unlimited" which clearly it is not

I would agree - just over an hour a day is uncommon, but not unreasonable on an unlimited allowance. Under Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Practices legislation, it is illegal to mislead about the end date of an offer; I can't see how something described as unlimited actually being limited to 5% of what it could actually be (mathematically) is not similarly misleading/unfair.

So how many minutes are you actually using a month?
2000 mins is over an hour a day.
Unlimited is always subject to FUP, it's to protect other users.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
