If you apply for ESa you should get the basic rate (which is the same amount as JSA, I think that is what Indieboy meant) for some time with no questions asked, other than having to provide GP certificates.

At some stage you would be assessed and allocated to one of 2 main phase groups - or found 'fit for work and denied ESA.

If allocated to the lower of these groups you would be obliged to attend the JobCentre for interviews, and could be sent to a Work Program.

So going onto ESA would give you a breather but would not guarantee that you have no further contact with the JobCentre or work program providers.

I'll be honest with you, its the whole bothering caused by the job centre itself, not just appointment. They have messed so much opportunities up for me by forcing me to addend pointless courses when I had my own other appointments booked for apprenticeship enrolments etc.

I have no problem finding a job myself, and I have an interview coming up late next week which I am really looking forward to. I could just do with a a little break from them while my stress calms down.

Can I ask, if you have no problem finding yourself a job, why not get one rather than go sick?

If they are looking to refer you to MWA you must meet the criteria which means a while since you were alt employed, as for courses again they are mandatory if you need them. Whate exactly about JCP is causing the stress? Do you not realise all things in life cause stress, JSA, work, kids.

Yes if a doctor deems you unfit for work he will issue the fit note, you sign off JSA and make a claim for ESA but as others have said a medical assesment may find you fot for work, then you will go back to JSA and be exactly where you are now facing the prospect of MWA and the stress of dealing with signing. I'm sorry you find it stressful, perhaps your GP could refer you to some support groups to help you deal with stress too. Good luck.

No problem finding work, as in no problem looking for work. In other words, I don't have the attitude that I don't want to work.

    Indie,

I have got a Med3 sickness note today, could you just update me I have done everything right so far.

Iv'e gone to my local job centre and explained to them I would like to now claim ESA. They gave me a small form and made me sign it, this was to sign off the JSA. I was then given the number to contact ESA.

3 hours later, I contacted ESA and told them I am on JSA, and I would like to be transferred to ESA as I have a doctors note. I assume they have noted all this down as they took my details, and they have told me to send my doctors note to:

    Birkenhead
    Benefits Centre
    Post Handling Site B
    Wolverhampton
    WV99 1FZ

I will send this off recorded delivery as suggested earlier. I have also been to my local council office and made them aware that I was moving from JSA to ESA incase they suspended my housing benefits due to the change of circumstances.

    All sound ok?
