Jobcentre Stress

I'm going through a lot of stress and the doctor seems to think it could be due to me being on the job centre. He has recommended me to come of the job centre and to give me a sick note, however I turned the offer down as I was unsure how I would go about everything.

If I did choose this route, what else would you claim if the doctor gave you a sick note and how much would you receive?

You'd receive ESA which is the same as JSA.

Medical? Can you explain further please, I wasn't aware of a medical?

I have stress related problems such as breathing problems, back ache etc and have done for the past 6 months, which is also noted on the doctors system.

After a certain amount of time, (it was 13 weeks; but now it seems to be whenever there's a space) you have to have an assessment to see if you're fit for work.

    ESA is a sickness/disavility benefit.
as indie says, you have an assessment at or after 13 weeks.
you would need evidence to support your claim to have the best chance of passing.
  • Thanks.

Do you know if you are exempt from Mandatory Work Experience while claiming ESA? I mean, surly that would defeat the object of being on ESA due to being stressed?

If the stress is caused by the jobcentre after 13 weeks of not going to the jobcentre you shouldn't be showing any symptoms so it'll be difficult to prove to an independent observer that you only get the symptoms when signing on there.

It's exactly the same money but there is no requirement to look for work.

What you should really get is help getting you to relax before going there. The majority of jobcentre workers are fine to deal with.

You don't have to attend. They will contact you to get you attend, like they did with me. But you don't have to attend. And you can't be sanctioned if you don't attend.

Do you know how long the process takes to get transferred from JSA to ESA. I am going to the doctors tomorrow for some more anxiety tablets so I may give it a mention then.

Straight away once you call them up. Once you send the doctors note through it'll all be confirmed and you'll be on ESA from the date on the doctors note. It's not a very hard process. Much easier than your application for JSA.
