Not too bad a week spending wise. Another £50 off the CC, and a £55 weekly shop done. I have done some baking and and managed to bulk out meals with plenty of cheap veg/beans/lentils so feel as though we have eaten really well despite not spending much.

Went out for drinks for a friend's birthday a few nights ago but was sensible and drove everyone rather than drinking so had all my soft drinks bought for me so a free evening! Still had a great time despite being the only sober person and it was nice to be clear headed in the morning too!

Quiet weekend planned, will probably make some pizza dough in the breadmaker and use up bits and pieces in the fridge as toppings this evening.

I honestly quite enjoy our frugal shopping/eating! :D

Both our children like fish so I bought a big bag of frozen pollock fillets for about £3 pounds this week which have been great... I chopped some tomatoes and a little bit of chorizo and chucked them over some of the fish with herbs from the garden the other night and popped it all in the oven- so tasty, even DH who isn't into fish loved it! Nice healthy meal with potatoes and green beans which probably cost us less than £1 a head.

Chorizo seems to feature a fair bit in my cooking at the moment! I buy a long chorizo sausage (about £3 I think) and use it lots through the week... good for adding a bit of flavour to lots of things and handy for pizza toppings too. I reckon our homemade pizza only costs about 40p a head max, and it is soo tasty (if I do say so myself!) :rotfl:

  • I can't wait to get under the £30k mark! I reckon it will be June fingers crossed!
You're diary is an inspiration - food is the one thing I struggle with! I have a very fussy 6 yr old and OH that is often late home or out evenings pricing work. If I could nail the food thing - we would be laughing!

    Thank you both!!

Amazing how much less a number starting with a lower figure looks isn't it! :D Best of luck getting there in June MTW!

I have a fussy 5 year old but I'm mean and often cook things for the family that I know he'll turn his nose up at as otherwise we'd all get bored! I make sure every other meal is one he'll like (or whatever we are having minus 'evil' sauce usually). My husband is often late home too but thankfully he's usually happy with a toasted sandwich or cheese and biscuits or something. My slow cooker is great for evenings when he is home late as I can just leave whatever I cook simmering away for him to help himself later.

Totally agree re the slow cooker. I was reading about years gone by where there would always be a pot on over the stove that just got topped up with veg/stock and everyone would eat from that. That feels like my slow cooker lol!
Well done PP, won't be long now!
