Our Journey to a Debt Free 2016

Hello!

After a big relocation, some job trouble, and a house purchase (and let's face it, some less than sensible spending habits) we find ourselves in over £38k of debt. In fact, the initial figure was more like £43k but we have been chipping away and got it down a little since then.

On the plus side, we have money coming in that enables us to make overpayments each month without causing too much pressure... but on the downside this seems to have meant that we haven't been as focused as we should be. Treats here and there, being lazy and shopping in expensive supermarkets when we needn't, buying clothes and all sorts of things. There is no reason why we can't knuckle down and get rid of it all, I'm determined that we finally manage to be debt free in 2016! How fantastic that would be.

Having lurked for a few months I have decided that a shiny new diary might be just what I need to keep up the momentum and focus!

Have kicked things off with quite a productive day today. I have...
  • Negotiated a much better deal with our broadband supplier.
  • Meal planned for the week.
  • Done a very frugal weekly Lidl shop.
  • Cancelled a contents policy that I should have cancelled months ago after realising we were dual insured.
  • Updated our recently neglected accounts spreadsheet.

Going to dig out some ebayable outgrown childrens clothes this evening and get them photographed and listed too.

Now I have set up my own MSE account I can join in some other diaries too which will be nice, not sure why it has taken me so long!

    Thank you Tiggy!

Now about to launch into creation of a giant chilli padded out with lentils, hopefully plenty for this evening and another evening's worth for the freezer :)

Feels good to be actively getting back in control of things :j

Feeling all fidgety today, wanting to 'do' something to crack on with the debt-busting.

Been googling local car boot sales, found one very near here. Haven't been to a car boot sale since I was a child so planning a recce this weekend for inspiration and a feel for what sort of prices stuff goes for at them these days! In the meantime I can get on with sorting through 'stuff' to take when I take the plunge myself! Plenty of outgrown toys and things that can go, books, clothes...

Perhaps a mass house sorting out session might keep me occupied this afternoon. Be good to declutter if nothing else!

Cooking either pasta or rice tonight, with a random mix of bacon and veg lurking in the fridge!

Managed to get one high-ish value item on ebay yesterday evening, also transferred a chunk of our emergency fund onto the CC.

    Today's plan of action:
    • List some more smaller ebay bits.
    • [STRIKE]Bake some bread[/STRIKE].
    • [STRIKE]Defrost some fish ready to make homemade fish fingers tonight[/STRIKE].
    • Tip run.
    • Get back in control of the housework!

Have a great day everyone! :)

Not much to report today- feeling shattered and unproductive after a busy week entertaining children!

Making a mini-roast dinner with some chicken thighs from the freezer later. Was supposed to be going on a girls night out this evening but I think I am going to give it a miss and have an early night instead. So tired!! If I do go I'll drive, stay a short while, and stick to soft drinks.

Hopefully I'll be fresh in the morning to go and visit the local car boot :-)

    Thanks supersaver!

Did end up staying home yesterday evening, although we treated ourselves to some wine so not an entirely frugal evening (nice though, and cheaper than a night at the pub!).

Well, after getting the children all excited about taking a few pounds of their pocket money on my car boot recce this morning we got there to find it wasn't on! The information about it I found online must have been out of date :(

Now have two teary disappointed children and no further on my quest for car boot knowledge! Nevermind, it's a nice sunny day so will cheer them up with a trip to a park with their bikes and a picnic I think.

Will have to ask about locally and see where the best car boots (of the actually on variety) are near here and try again another day.

Going to have to fit in another Lidl shop at some point today too, my family are eating me out of house and home- determined not to be lured into more expensive supermarkets for top-ups!

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend! x
