  • A good morning for CC overpayments :j

Checked my account this morning and transferred £40 onto the CC, leaving me with just enough spending money for the week to manage. Then checked our joint account and found a refund we were due from a utilities company has come through so transferred that straight onto the CC too

Need to sit down and meal plan for the week now, will probably wait until this evening to attempt the weekly shop so that I can do it without battling with the children all the way round :rotfl:

Nice cheap day out with the children yesterday although we did slip in the evening and buy steak for tea as a treat.

Back on it today though... last weeks left over chilli out of the freezer for tonight and an attempt at making do with what's left in the house until the weekend, given I didn't manage to get to do the weekly shop.

A couple of ebay auctions ended this morning so will transfer the funds off the CC as soon as they arrive.

This month feels a bit like a watched clock, I'm looking forward to updating my spreadsheet as soon as payday comes around!

ETS ebay items paid for and proceeds off the CC! :jump: Have adjusted my signature to focus on our CC overpayments rather than payments against the whole debt, wondering if we can muster up another few £100 to reach £2k this month. I'm sure we must have some more bits we could ebay...

  • Wow, it feels so cold today! Resisting the urge to put the heating on!

Packing ready for a weekend trip to stay with my Mum. Bar the bottle of wine and flowers we will take along it should be a relatively spend-free few days, and hopefully a nice time :-)

Fingers crossed for some better weather, certainly feels as though autumn is on it's way!

  • Back after a nice frugal weekend.

Lots of chat about finances on the way home... we think some serious knuckling down for 18 months or so is definitely the way forward....

Made a quick check of our accounts this morning and transferred another £45 onto the CC. Have someone coming to collect some furniture I sold tomorrow so that should be another £200 to pay in and off too, bringing the total paid off this month to £2035! Pleased with that, a good start! :j:

    Todays to-do list includes...
    • [STRIKE]Post off old mobile phone[/STRIKE] (hopefully to get £60 back for it)
    • [STRIKE]Claim travel expenses[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Meal planning[/STRIKE] and weekly Lidl shop

Have a great day everyone!

  • Long day!

Didn't manage the food shop, the children have been bouncing off the walls and fighting constantly- just couldn't face it!! Cheesy pasta for tea it is then!

Went for a romp round the park and now making the most of Amazon Prime kids movies. Amazon Prime a bit of an expense at £79 a year but we don't have Sky TV and I am forever using it to order last minute bits and bobs (like forgotten birthday gifts and the like) so it isn't too terrible value wise for us.

Can't wait to climb into a hot bath later and then head off for an early night with a book!

  • Feeling bright and breezy this morning after a nice early night!

First load of washing is on the line drying in the wind and the second load in the machine. Dropping youngest off at cricket club for the day and then finally off to the supermarket for the weekly shop with eldest. Not much food left in the house!

Hopefully the buyer of our furniture will be coming round after lunch, will head straight to the bank and pay the cash off the CC.

Plenty of house work to do whilst I have the luxury of only one child to contend with this afternoon :) Might buy a large chicken this morning, cook a roast dinner, and see how many more meals I can squeeze out of the rest of the carcass later in the week.

Still have a few bits to ebay/gumtree... many of them childrens toys. Feels like a bit of a moral dilemma selling their toys to pay off debt but if they are outgrown and no longer played with they might as well go- the children will benefit in the long term and I'm sure a little of the proceeds could go towards purchase of something new for them, could even get them involved as a bit of a lesson about money?

  • Morning all!

My travel expenses appeared in my account this morning, had expected them to take ages! Transferred straight to CC.

Managed a £50 weekly shop yesterday, although we are away staying with family again this weekend so I only bought 5 or 6 days worth. Enjoyed a lovely roast dinner last night, not much chicken left over but I think I'll be able to stretch it to a veg heavy stir fry this evening. Might even chuck the bones in the slow cooker and make some soup too. Leftover roasties have already been gobbled up by the kids this morning- should have made more!

Going to be a slightly spendy day today as I really must brave the shops for back to school bits, including shoes for our youngest.

Discovered some debt that we weren't really aware of yesterday... £700ish on a 20% current account overdraft :( It's an account we just use for our mortgage payment that ticks along by itself with money going in and out each month- need to up the standing order to it as there has been a shortfall each month that has built up. We have £1000 in our emergency fund so plan to pay it off using that, it an still act as a bit of a cash emergency fund and we will save the interest we have been paying. Bit of a step back but nevermind, no point crying over spilt milk :(

Still no further on the ebay listings, determined to get some done today!!

  • Happy Friday! :j

Not much to report on the money front today.

Managed to get school bits sorted the other day so that's ticked off the list. The company I sent my phone to e-mailed to say they have received it and offered £17 less than quoted for it (chipped corner apparently, can't say I had noticed any chips, it has lived in a leather flip case from new) but still, hopefully a cheque on the way soon and anything better than nothing. It was a very old iPhone so didn't want the hassle of selling it and then have someone complain if it stopped working suddenly!

Only a week until payday now. It's been a productive month but next month it's going to be MUCH harder to reach our target of £800 off the CC, let alone pay more than that. Need to get my thinking cap on and find some more ways to earn some extra cash!
