Demon Broadband Help Needed...possible Change Of Supplier Advice Needed Aswell!!!

Please help me here....I returned from a trip to poland for 4 days to find that my normal download speed of 250kbs had gone down to 29kbs. I called some place in india they call a help desk and they were hopeless. The jist of four calls was that the server needed to be refreshed and i had to wait 72hrs and leave my computer online for the whole time without switching off in order to creat a stable connection.

The microfilters are all fine and the speed of my connection is working at 3.3mbps. Can anyone offer any advice i use u torrent to download but that's also fine and have tried using different downloaders but same results. Done all the speed tests aswell and they all come back at 29kbs download and 34kbs upload speed which is way short.

If they don't solve it in 3 days i wanna give notice and want a unlimited connection offering a minimum 50gig a month download package with no speed throttling.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP AS IT'S DRIVING ME MAD HERE WITH THIS SLOW SPEED.

TalkTalk have been stable for me for the last year even after the LLU upgrade. Tiscali are also stable, but good luck trying to get any tech support out of them. Tiscali are certainly not the ones to go for if you're a tech novice, or don't understand internet settings/modems/routers.

Tiscali are not the ones to go for Full Stop. My partner used to work on an IT helpdesk, and he still can't anything out of Tiscali. Our broadband internet went down to slower than dial-up nearly a month ago, and Tiscali tech 'support' have been absolutely useless, denying there is a problem. We are jumping ship...

Why I'm leaving demon after more than ten years...

I joined them not long after they started up, lived through all their teething troubles, and found myself with a good ISP whose quality, standards and support I was always pleased to say was excellent and I was always happy to recommend them.

But over the last few years there's been a shift to corporate provision and it's been my feeling that us private users are now just a nuisance byline since they clearly make their money from the business world.

I'm feeling like a second class user.

Several days ago, when trying to upgrade my web space (a generous 20MB in the mid 90's which hasn't changed) I was unable to access it. Checking the status on line showed that previous problems with web hosting had been resolved on Aug 6th - and at the time of writing it's now the 22nd.

Their magic text chat for technical support either fails to respond or drops out within a couple of minutes. (BTW both IE and Firefox show errors on the page - which may explain a lot).

It has a feedback form where you can ask for an email response or even one by phone. No such responses have been made.

So I was stuck with an 0845 phone call that lasted more than half an hour AND this "help" has left me worse off than before! And the person I spoke to said, yes, there are still a few problems. Sheesh!

The only response I've had was from Customer Services (because trying to find an email address for Tech Support just doesn't work [if you can find it in less than ten clicks do please let me know :)] and, the Tech Library for web hosting problems gives a 404) and C.S. said basically they would pass my comments on to the relevant section...

Hmmm...

This is now day four...

So I rang the only 0800 number I could find (Sales) and told them I was about to write a post for the MSE site which has several hundred thousand members and perhaps they'd like to ensure that I get a call back from Tech Support.

This was promised within a few minutes...

So now, more than an hour later, here it is - my post :)

I've been looking through alternative ISP's but it's hard to assess them all since there are so many "standards".

What I'd like is an ISP that provides the following:-
• My own node name. (For those of you not sure - I mean that I don't want to be squeaky@somewhere.com I want to be Richard@squeaky.somewhere.com
• Email (not capped for file size etc)
• Newsgroups
• Web access (unlimited)
• 20MB (minimum) web space
• 8MB feed or better
All for the princely sum of £19.95 or better.

Until recently the service provided by demon, as I say, was excellent - so can you recommend another ISP who you can honestly say is also excellent please?

Zen Internet - one of the best ISPs I have ever encountered and they consistantly score high on customer service.

Node Name - not sure about this one... possibly
Email - 11 Pop 3 accounts and as far as I am aware, they are unlimited.
Newgroups - Check, all 50,000 of them.
Web Access - I take it you mean download limits? Well no but you've a choice of 2, 20 or 50 Gb per month and you can buy more at anytime. You'd have to have alot of disk space to use even 20Gb per month - and I download games full tilt!
Web Space - 2Gb enough for you?
8Mb - yup.

Price - depends on how much bandwidth you are going to use, 20Gb is £24.99.

They are excellent, very helpful and know how to resolve issues. If you are a gamer as well, you might want to ask them to turn off interleaving to improve latency - if not, don't bother with it.
Faith is believing what you know ain't so...

Zen but it costs and you get what they say you will get.

No hidden strings, FUP or T&C.

Node Name - if that's like an alias then yes they do.
How do I get an e-mail address?

Zen Internet access accounts are provided with the ability to create up to 10 e-mail accounts of the form you@yourchoice.myzen.co.uk.
