Demon are just above Virgin Media (my ISP) in this DSL ZoneUK ISP ratings - unsurprisingly, both aren't rated very well. Zen is in 7th spot which is quite good, but you may want to check out the others in the top to see how they measure up to your needs/budget. G0

Thanks.
I checked the top ones on the list and found that zen is the first one that gives me pretty much all I want.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. This is a warning to all those out there that may be considering signing up to Demon or Thus internet services.
Endless queues on the phone with a shoddy outsourced customer services team who lack ownership and have no understanding of what customer service means.
Unable to assist in the transfer of broadband when moving home;
They actually tell you that you have to cancel the service and re-apply on the other end, when there is no guarantee that you will be able to get the service you have paid for. Even if you give provide them with all the details of where you are moving to.
And best of all..
Even if you are able to transfer the service to new premises you are held to ransom for another 12 month contract. And by the time you have done all the work for them; running around trying to activate on the other end you may as well discount the possibility of getting broadband at all.
My advice is to go with a reputable company like Virgin who will go all out to ensure that your are satisfied, you also get a great bundle with a line and free cable TV.0 -
I've been using Demon for over 2 years and moved last August and stayed with them as have never had any problems whatsoever. While moving though, I had to cancel the previous contract and start a new 12-month one (that's their policy) but that's it. I compared it with competitors and for £17.99/month, u get a really unlimited, fast and reliable broadband. :j No experience with customer services as I never had to call them about anything.0

It's not unlimited, read their fair usage policy and limits here.
:rolleyes:

fair usage policy? i don't think fair is the word.
after just 13 days with demon i have now been restricted to 128kbps between 9am and 10pm-ish. so we're talkin 10kB/s download speed. reminds me of the dialup days.
ok so i download a lot, using p2p and newsgroups..... exactly why i went for an UNLIMITED service. i mean even if they restricted it to 1meg i would be annoyed but at least it would be usable.
will be calling them as soon as possible to get a MAC code. course will probably have to argue a lot to get it without being charged for cancelling within 12month contract period. as far as i am concerned i no longer get broadband speeds so they are in breach of contract.
shame , because up until now i have been really impressed with the service.0 -
I stuck with Demon for over ten years, but decided to move to a different ISP earlier this month, partly to save money, and partly because I had a dispute with Demon earlier in the year in which I think they behaved very badly.
In November I sent them a letter by recorded delivery notifying them that I did not wish to renew my subscription after it expired (giving them more than the amount of notice required by their T&Cs) and asking for my MAC. I didn't get this within a week, so had to phone them for it and assumed that was it..
So I was somewhat miffed last week when I received an invoice for around £300 for a year's contract, telling me they would take the sum by Direct Debit. I sent an angry email immediately and at least have it in writing that they won't be pursuing me for the money, but it shows that they are pretty inefficient when it comes to billing."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0
