Hiya and welcome 7 week wonder. I hope you have a nice 7 weeks off rather than just tidying the house! I just put my micro cloths in the washing machine....i'll probably be sold off now! I'm sure others will be along to answer the other questions. I'm afraid I don't do windows very often as I have two children, a cat and a dog and life is too short! xx

Back again - full as a tick with chicken korma (and plenty of the earlier cooking!)

Nothing earlier was from asda or Mr kipling despite the little foil cases. I did however cheat a bit lil_me with the recipes.

Started with the pastry which was a mix in the cupboard - not very OS but it had to be used up, so a doz jam tarts while I made the lemon meringues. Cheated again here and used a lemon pie filling mix. Found one in the cupboard which was BB Mar 98 and thought that was probably a bit too out of date to use, so used the one that was BB Mar 06.
Then the orange and ricotta scones which are just so easy and absolutely gorgeous.

    Oven 200C
    175g ricotta cheese
finely grated rind of an orange
    100g caster sugar
    200g SR flour
    50 g butter
    1 - 2 tbsp milk
    dem sugar for sprinkling

Beat ricotta with orange rind and half sugar.
In separate bowl rub rest of sugar with flour and butter to look like fine breadcrumbs.
Stir mixtures together and add a little milk if you need to make a soft but not sticky dough. (I actually use juice of the orange for more flavour)
Tip onto a lightly floured surface and knead (just a couple of times no more as you'll make it tough.) make into a ball and put onto a piece of greaseproof or baking parchment and flatten to a circle 2 - 3 cm thick. mark into 6 or 8 wedges (or as I did cut into squares), brush with milk sprinkle with sugar and bake 20 mins until risen and golden. Cool on wire rack.
Best eaten on day they're made - yeah right lets see them last longer. Can be frozen for up to a month. I love them cut in half and sandwiched with mascapone. Mmmmmmm

Anyway then the banana and walnut loaf. Once i'd found the recipe realised hadnt taken bananas out of freezer (one of last weeks tips for overripe bananas!) so had to defrost them in a bowl of warm water - OMG what a mess wont tell you what they looked like.

    Oven 180C
    8oz SR flour
    4oz butter
    1/2 tsp cinnamon
4oz brown sugar (forgot and used ord white then bunged a bit of brown in after)
    2 large eggs
    3 large bananas mashed
    3oz chopped walnuts

2lb loaf tin greased and lined

Couldnt be done with all the beating butter and sugar adding eggs separately and fold in flour, so bunged it all in mixing bowl with hand held mixer and a couple of teaspoons baking powder. Wazzed it up and bunged in tin. Cook 1 - 1 and a 1/4 hours.

All done (just) in time for school run.

I never do anything thats difficult or takes a long while. Cant see the point.

Oh and another really easy recipe and really good if your kids wont eat breakfast are Breakfast Muffins. Just dont tell the kids whats in them.

    Oven 180C
    175g SR flour
    50g porridge oats
    140g light muscavado sugar
    2 tsp cinnamon
175g stoned prunes chopped up really small
    85g pecans
    6tbsp sunflower oil
    1 egg
    150g natural yoghurt
    1 tsp vanilla essence
    2tbsp milk

Tip all dry ingredients into a bowl and mix.
Beat oil, egg, vanilla, yoghurt and milk then very lightly stir into dry ingredients until just mixed.(sometimes use fromage frais or any yoghurt thats OOD in the fridge :rotfl: kids never know!)
Spoon into muffin cases (7 - 10) or more if you use the mini ones
Bake 20 mins or until risen and golden.
    You'll love em.

Went into town and got shoes for DS1
Exchanged wii controller for one that works
Exchanged car DVD player for one that works
Had a look at school stuff
    Put old car in Ad-trader
Moved old car to front door so I can hoover it out
Cleared out hall cupboard so I can get into freezer and hoovered it
Found jackets to go on ebay
    Made dinner
    Tidied Kitchen
    Swish and Swiped Bathroom
    Put a wash on
Looked intently at kids bedroom tut-tutting
Binned a load of old shoes and jackets form hall cupboard after doing my usual and shoving them upstairs! (very proud of this)
Binned the old shoes and shoebox from DS1 new shoes

Looking at it like that, I feel I have done something!

Now I shall clean kitchen again and do at least one cupboard
Sweep and Mop lamenate flooring downstairs (oh, does anyone use one of those lamenate hoover/cleaners? are they any good?)

The rest of you have done a lot better than me! Well done!

anyone use the BBC good food site for recipes? Just discovered it and made minestrone soup in 40mins! Am I bad for not realising you could use a bag of frozen veg?

I adapted it a bit to this.

1.5lt of a mix of veg and beef stock
    tin chopped tomatoes
    some spaghetti broken up (brown)
few slices of bacon cut into bits
small bag of frozen mixed veg that had been in freezer for yonks
some tomato puree and basil to taste
    some garlic

Served with a not so perfect homemade loaf

Fed us all for lunch and got a tub for the freezer too, I'm smug.

Hi 7WW and enjoy your 7 weeks.

While on the cooking subject can I ask a quick question? I made the pizzas and DS is tucking in!! But i had trouble getting the dough to flatten into a base, it just kept springing back to a lump, are you supposed to knead it again after its risen?
    Thanks for any advice

Well I did sweet fanny adams today.

DD1 seems fully recovered so DD2 had the temperature fits today bless her. Porridge made for brekkie (DD2 had 1 mouthful), lunch made (DD2 half a cracker), tea we had spag bol just gave DD2 pasta with grated cheese. She ate it all so will see how she is over night.

So just been sat mainly doing cuddles and DD1 had a go on cbeebies site etc. My throat is feeling decidedly sore so am really hoping that an early night and a couple of paracetamols will get rid of it. Am thinking bowl of icecream with toffee sauce may be good for it too.

Plan to catch up with kitchen plan tomorrow, should only take me about half an hour if honest as gets a good S & S everyday.

Right off to get a bowl and spoon ........

ALso have a sore throat .. what a fantastically good idea, Shell. Will go and find mango ice cream in the freezer immediately. As it contains fruit will obviously have a LOT of Vit C in it ... a healthy snack???:rotfl:

Have done Monday and Tuesday all up to level 3 and it actually only took an hour and a half owing to following Li'l_me's list now for several weeks and keeping up with the daily tasks too. Can't believe how good it feels. (Sad old bag aren't I?:o ) 7WW, you'll be like this soon so don't laugh at me! Welcome to all the other newbies and returners too.

HopElizzy you're certainly going through a very difficult time. This is a great place to share your troubles and worries. Your friend must be comforted to think that you'll be there for her dh and children. Sometimes sobbing is just waht you need to do, but from the way you write I'm guessing you're a strong woman and you'll be coping as you sob.

Now I'm off to get a very very big bowl of icecream .. well my throat is even sorer than Shell's.
