If you get it for free you'll still be out of pocket.0 -

Er no I didn't. Again you are taking my comments out of context, and again I was specifically discussing IHT on property as raised by officeuk and the ridiculous assertion that tax on anything above £650k was a bad thing.
Having said that, it is simply a fact that renters are less likely to leave any inheritance to their kids...Crashy_Time wrote: »Obviously you have seen the absurdity of your position
The absurdity of my position? You have consistently failed to show even one example of this special alternative renter's wealth that you alluded to; from that we can all surmise you were talking nonsense as usual.

so there we have it...people who are forced to rent as they have no choice due to A: very high housing costs, and B: props to help BTL outbid them every time, amongst other reasons, keeps an entire 1/3 of the population in poverty for life.
There are very few people in the UK who are genuinely in "poverty" as most of us would understand the word and I would hazard that many who are are there due to making bad decisions in the past.
My issue is with the HPCers who could buy but choose to rent for flawed idealogical reasons and then spend their life complaining "woe is me".Every generation blames the one before...

Or in Crashy's case an irrational fear of mortgage interest which has cost him a 6 figure sum already. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Interested in "alternative investments"?
Have a look at what the wise men of HPC recommend in their forum with the sub-heading "Where to invest that sell-to-rent fund?":

Plenty on here on peer-to-peer lending, gold, investing directly in Russia and other such low risk investments.
Personally, I'd rather not take the risk and sit back and rather let my tenants pay my mortgages for me.0 -

This is very true, and a good explanation as to why significant reform around BTL is an essential component of addressing the housing issue in this country. The social cost of allowing the status quo to go on is simply huge. Sadly, it suits those at the top to allow it to continue though, and so it almost certainly will.0 -

My issue is that many people do not have the choice due to skewed policies towards one section of society, and that section has been allowed to run away further with bigger and bigger props in the interest of the "economy".
The tool of the bankers is fear. The fear of missing out. It is a very effective tool.
And if they cant use that tool on customers anymore, they use it on Governments.0
