England is "not a valid country".

I went for a job interview on Wednesday and had to fill in an application form. On the optional equal opportunities form, on the ethnicity list, "white" wasn't even listed! All I could find was "european" towards the bottom of the form and I just put "white british" next to that.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090

Went to complete it on line.
The second question is "What is your nationality?"
The options are:-
British
Irish
Citizen of a different country
I choose the 3rd option, and a box appeared entitled "Country name".
I entered "England" and clicked "Continue"
It refused to allow that, on the grounds "This is not a valid country".
Surely you can see that the first option, British, is the right one to choose?
If you had chosen British, then you wouldn't have seen the Country name box.
Let me put that another way... by choosing Citizen of a different country you are stating that you are neither British or Irish.
Are you old enough to vote?
I read your signature and did smile.
I think it's time you read my sig.0 -

You might want to lose that immigration chip on your shoulder, especially given that a Russian citizen would not have a right to work here without requisite visas etc.0 -
You appear to be one of those unfortunate people (of whom there seem to be a good quantity here) who are able to infer 'obviousness' from a complete misunderstanding of a situation.
Of course there is such a country as England and such a nationality as English.
The fact that there is also a recognise nationality: 'British' does not change that fact.
Neither does the fact that some entity that does not need to know from which part of Britain you derive your British nationality and thus does not accept it on an on-line form.
Of course, this is just sloppy and lazy programming on the part of the council. It should accept any of the component parts of 'Britain' and then record the answer as if it had been 'Britain'.
I'm well aware that England is a country, I'm also well aware that very few electronic forms have this option hence my reply, next time I shall inform you as to whether or not i am replying to the topic in hand, or whether I am replying concerning actual geography.0 -
What is England if it isnt a country
what does it have to do to become valid
Possibly under the section "What Country is called Europe?":A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

No I can't see that.by choosing Citizen of a different country you are stating that you are neither British or Irish.

Suggest you look it up, you should find the answer in any Children's library.
Possibly under the section "What Country is called Europe?"
Your posting gibberish isn't going to move the discussion forward. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

No you said you were asked:Bedsit_Bob wrote: »What is your nationality?"
The answer is you're British.
Can you please not to make the British look so stupid they can't even fill out an online form correctly!0
