  • I have been trying to think of what I can do this week obviously Christmas is Thursday and I have already decided that I am not going to restrict myself in anyway. Almost like a last hooray for all the bad foods. The reason why I have done this is because my DH and I have decided to start trying for a baby. Very excited about this, even went to see a doctor to get checked over to make sure I am good to go and bought my bumper pack of folic acid.

So after Christmas I will be throwing away or making sure all the foods are used that I shouldn't be eating or drinking. My DH is already starting to try giving up smoking which is a very good thing indeed.
With Christmas out of the way I can start getting my body into a healthy state. I am also off work for most of the Christmas period which I can focus on more exercise and eating plans. Although looking at the size of our turkey we will be eating that most of the way though Jan and most likely Feb too.
Is it weird that I am looking forward to a Christmas morning run?

  • Monday food & exercise

B: Coffee & natural yoghurt with apple and cinnamon compote
L: Nandos lunch with friends - quarter chicken with mango lime marinade, corn on cob & sweet pot mash - water to drink
D: Beef stew and roasted parsnips
    S: 25g cashews
    E: Walked 10234 (4.7 miles), 2 mins stairs
    Cals: 1249
    Carbs: 99g

I know I didn't make my calorie quota for Monday but this was down to making up 5 hampers last night after work so I ran out of time to sit and eat my evening snack and coffee. Got them all done though and I think they look pretty good for my first go.

    Hello first trouble,
Just read a few of your posts and congratulation.
Have you got a smart phone. If you have a super app is STRAVA. It is free. It uses the GPS on your phone and tracks your run or walk.
As an example. If you are setting out for a walk or a run. You start the app. When you get back home you stop the app. It will then show you a map of your journey. Average speed and distance. You can share however I enjoy comparing and competing with myself.
    Good luck.

    Thanks gfplux;67292449,

I use 'Map my Run' which is similar gives you the above plus all stats on past runs and you can also set goals for yourself too. It also gives you a commentary every so often so you can tell how far and at what average speed. You can use it alongside your music as well and it will run in the background and just interrupt when it needs to.

I dont agree with this. Its two days at christmas and two days at new year. It shouldnt be an excuse to eat everything you shouldnt be eating come the new year, for whatever reason

Youve been working really hard at getting healthy but now you are either going to eat all the bad stuff or throw it in the bin. I dont think either is the preferred option to be honest.

If you cant eat the food in the new year, give it away, dont bin it. If you want a cheat meal or two over the festive season then have it, but dont use the festive season as a last hoorah to eat lots of junk, because trying for a baby or not, I guarantee you if you start the new year 7 pounds heavier, I bet you'll wish you had reigned it in a bit.
  • Theres absolutely nothing wrong with having a bit of a blowout, but if you go through life separating food into good and bad you'll probably end up unstuck.

Either choose an eating plan that allows you to have a little of what you fancy now and then, or do a clean diet where you can have a cheat meal lets say once a week.

It stops you getting into the mindset of this food is good and this food is bad, I can guarantee you, trying for a baby or not, if you hit the new year 7-10 pounds heavier you'll think why did I bother eating all that crap.

I know its harder for you due to medical issues, personally Im going to have a couple of takeaways and a few drinks, but thats it, because I know how my body reacts to an overload of calories even in a short space of time, it puts weight on and quickly.

It is possible to lose weight over the festive period or stay the same weight, loads of people do it, I think too many of us get into the mindset of christmas is coming and therefore I need to have a lot of blowouts, we don't.

You are so right purpleshoes, I would be devastated if I regained all the weight that I had struggled so hard to lose. I still am going to let myself have a relaxed Christmas (I don't really do new year) but I won't be going maniac and eating everything in sight. I had been thinking myself about all the food I had in and was thinking how awful I would feel afterwards and some of the food is not looking so appealing right now. My mum is coming for a visit on the 27th so I was thinking of giving her a food parcel as I know they are struggling financially at the moment so that would be quite welcome.

  • I gave everything I couldnt eat away to my mum. The other option would have been to keep it in the freezer and have the food once a month or once a fortnight.

You dont need to eat it all or bin it all, there are middle options.

If your mum would welcome the food then yes, giving her some would be a great idea.

Of course christmas is there to be enjoyed as I said before, Im going to have a few drinks and a couple of takeaways, but if I ate the way Im capable of, even over a 4-5 day period, I could guarantee you Id be on the scales 6-7 pounds heavier in the new year.

Its not the worst thing in the world, but as I said before I bet if you did step on the scales at new year and you were 12 stones insteads of 11 stones 4, youd start the new year feeling crap.

Enjoy the treats you have your eye on, just dont go crazy. Also, when I eat too much junk my body really doesn't like it, thats because Ive not eaten junk in a long time.

The treats I am really looking forward to are all home made:

    Raspberry/cherry Ice cream
    Chocolate chunk brownies
    Mini Apple pies
    Mince pies

The brownies and apple pies are from request from my DH as he doesn't like Christmas pudding or mince pies. Also the ice cream is to test out my new ice cream maker and use up some of the HM jams I have left over from the hampers. Looking forward to having more home made treats in the new year. Means when I do want a treat I know what has gone into it and it hasn't been made in a factory.

I find that if I eat too much of the junk food I feel really lethargic and a little ill. If I am honest.

My mum would definitely appreciate any extras I can give them and the more convenient the better.
