Jobcentre making me go on Daily Signing. Can I do anything to prevent it?

OP will get his fares refunded. Anyone can be put on daily signing if the reason are justified. If the OP os 18-24 daily signing is part of the regime at some point. I am presumin the OP has more or less said exactly the same to his adviser as he has stated here so he has enforced daily signing to expalin the point of exactly what JSA is.0

Daily signing is pointless, they just like ordering you around at the jc and trying out pointless things.
As it must cost the gov about £20 per week per person in bus fairs apart for people who live within walking distance to the JC, they must think it's worth it to make people sign on daily.
It does seem ridiculously excessive. Why does a claimant need to be questioned and pressured 5 times a week about what they've done to look for work.0 -
It has to be to prevent them 'working', its fraud. It depends on what cash in hand work they're doing. But I think the idea isn't to necessarily prevent them working, so much as to make it more of a hassle for someone who is already working to sign on.
Or, in other words, to make the money not worth the bother...
That won't stop working on the side because working on the side comes and goes. No stability, no regularity.0 -

You're an easy target to get to sign-off or sanction if they don't think you're really be looking for work.BoredGuy90 wrote: »Hi.
I feel like I'm being discriminated against because I'm going to University this September.
I've been signing onto Jobseekers Allowence for 4/5 months and I was on the usual fortnightly signing. Last week I mentioned to my advisor I have accepted an Unconditional Offer for University starting this September and he was a bit funny about it and now he's put me on Daily Signing.
I don't really understand why he's done this, I would only be signing on for another 5 weeks or so. I just feel like because I'm going to University he's discriminating me and making me go to the Jobcentre daily which is going to cost me a fortune for travel which is (2 busses there and back per day) and they won't even give me travel expenses.
So my £50 a week for living on will plummet to £30 after travel. It just doesn't seem fair or right at all.
Is there anything I can do about this? Can I request to go back onto fortnightly signing or maybe file a complaint that I feel I'm being discriminated against?
I can't sign off because every penny I'm getting from Jobseekers at the moment is being saved for University, but now of course I'll have £20 less a week thanks to being forced there daily.
I was planning on using this 5 weeks to prepare for University and sorting out my Student Finance & Accommodation and then was going to begin reading up on some of the previous years coursework and books to try and get a bit of knowledge before starting the Course.
Any advice?0 -

" Where someone is required to attend more regularly than fortnightly, travel expenses are reimbursed for the ‘extra’ journey to and from the jobcentre. I attach the relevant guidance. "
The DWP appears to have forgotten to attach that guidance.

I noticed that too. However, the letter is from the DWP so I would have thought that this should be enough to show travel expenses should be paid.0 -
Look at it this way.. Lots of job seekers might not want a job that is only a few weeks cos of the stopping and starting of benefits. You are not in that position plus it means you can save more for Uni.0

And rightfully so as has been indicated by the OP - no intention to look for work, just preparation for Uni.
In this case, that member of staff has made the right call, albeit the benefit should actually stop completely.Professional Data Monkey

Payment of travel costs is provided through the Flexible Support Fund by Job Centre Plus.
Eventually found the document.

Scroll right down to Payment of Travel Costs through the FSF amongst the list of PDFs.
These daily attendances are not 'signing on days'.0
