He hasn't started a degree yet though

My post was in response to the post below
So by that logic all full time University students should be claiming JSA for the duration of their studies?!

You can still claim JSA until the day you start your new job, although you have to be looking for other work for the period in between (even if that is only a day).

Which of course is a stupid, bureaucratic charade

No it's not. The clue is in the name - it's for people seeking work.

Unless the jc drag out the signing process then daily signing for someone working cash in hand won't affect it.

The 'employer' is likely in on it and will make all necessary arrangements. Probably give you a lift and wait around the corner.

It depends on what cash in hand work they're doing. But I think the idea isn't to necessarily prevent them working, so much as to make it more of a hassle for someone who is already working to sign on.

Or, in other words, to make the money not worth the bother...

This freedom of information request backs up that travel expenses should be paid in these circumstances (unless new 'rules' have come in since it was posted)

" Where someone is required to attend more regularly than fortnightly, travel expenses are reimbursed for the ‘extra’ journey to and from the jobcentre. I attach the relevant guidance. "

The DWP appears to have forgotten to attach that guidance.

The op made the fatal mistake of telling the JCA about the fact that they are going to uni in September. You should NEVER tell the JC anything about jobs you have got a start-date for, or that you are intending to start further education or leaving the country UNTIL the very last minute. At that point, you phone them up and close the claim.

OP, you need to use the bus to get to the JC appointments and make sure to hand-in the bus ticket (they should photocopy it and hand it back). They will then authorize an immediate payment to your account.

A lot of horrible comment coming in particularly from the I'm paying taxes & keeping you brigade. Seems pointless making the OP sign in everyday. As long as he's still sticking to the criteria of looking for work all be it temporary before he starts university, just don't see a problem on this at all.

Let me get this straight, five weeks before your course is due to start and you haven't even applied for student finance yet? You'll be lucky if you get it before you start at this rate. When I was at university, I always applied in May/June because there is always a backlog and it takes longer if you make a mistake.
If you aren't even going to bother looking for a job just save yourself the hassle and sign off. If you have better things to do than look for work, then don't be on JSA its as simple as.
As for getting the job centre to pay for your travel, I believe they will only pay for it if they put you on a course in which you have to get public transport to. I'm pretty sure they won't pay out for you signing on. If it helps, get a weekly ticket, they are cheaper and won't cost you £20 a week out of your JSA or better yet get a monthly ticket.

For the record I am a graduate and currently on JSA even though I don't want to be. I just want to work even though it has been suggested to me several times that I would be better on ESA and being signed unfit for work.

Someone in this thread said that you only have to sign on daily if you've been on JSA for at least 2 years. So why has the OP been asked to sign on daily?

Regarding reimbursement of travel expenses when you are summonsed to JC at any other time than your usual fortnightly signing, I think you are supposed to tell them in advance that you will be claiming.
