In the past I have been allowed to sign on from the start of June, when I had a job lined up to start in September. They knew my job started in September and I would be signing on for 3 months, while looking for summer work such as bar work etc. Nobody seemed to care. Perhaps I was lucky. Daily signing on has always been, to my knowledge, something imposed on the long term unemployed.

Rather than file a complaint could you ask them to explain why you have been placed onto daily signing and ask them to point out the guideline and policy they are acting under, and if they are unable to do so, then explain to you why you cannot go back onto fortnightly signing.

Can you get JSA even if you are not seeking a job?

Jeez give the man a break. He asked for help, not judgement.

Does seem a bit over the top Op..I'd have a word with the Manager of the JCP, see if they can't make some allowances for you..Congrats on getting into University BTW.:T

sorry but mint is right. its called job seekers allowance. this means seeking work not preparing for uni.

My cousin was denied jsa because he told the staff that he was going back to college in September to finish off some modules.so they wouldn't even help him even if he was going to look for work

Not "lucky" if you were genuinely looking for "summer work".

I believe the rules don't allow to claim JSA whilst having stated a full time degree. It's all about the rules!

It is irrelevant what you think should happen.

The DWP are meant to follow their own rules and guidance! hich they are not doing here.

Besides, how is signing on daily getting someone ready for work?
Particularly when they have to spend time out of looking for work in travelling to the Jobcentre each day.

There must be some form of flexability in the rules otherwise they would not be doing it.

can you still get jsa if you found a job but it doesn't start for a few weeks, therefore your no longer looking for work, but there is a few weeks before you start, do you still get to sign on till the day before you start work? or does it stop the day you found the job?

It sounds like you gave them the impression that you wouldn't be looking so hard for work (if at all) because of the uni place. It may also be that you weren't meeting your however many tasks a week they've set for you.

Signing over and above the once a fortnight they do have to pay your fares however.
