Jet2 - any good ?

Hi all,

Have seen some reasonably priced return flights to Fuertaventura for school holiday period in 2015.

The cheapest combination is flying outbound with Ryanair and return with Jet2.

Have used Ryanair before, and it was ok, but never used Jet2 before.

One complication is we would be away for 2 weeks, have tended only to have 1 week breaks in recent years and have just used cabin bags. There are 3 of us , OH and I and 12 year old nipper, and we have 3 of the sub-zero bags.

Thinking that may need to check in 1 decent-sized case between 3 of us.

What are Jet2 like for charging for checked-in luggage ? and Ryanair come to that, as we didn't check-in with them before ?

Any advice/experiences appreciated, thanks..

( would be flying from Manc, which is a long way from us, but can stay at parents the night before )

  • Jet2 are generally pretty good. Ever flown with easyJet? They're near enough the same but with less orange. Jet2 give a fairly generous allowance of 22kg, and the prices aren't too extreme.

With Ryanair you can choose 15 or 20kg per person per bag, with different price brackets to suit, and they aren't so expensive to check baggage with as they used to be, but still aren't cheap by any stretch.

Read about what they did to Mr Huzar, then think again.

Flights are ok - pretty much on a par with the other 'low cost' airlines. No complaints with their Manchester ground/check-in staff, but overseas lot more than a bit jobsworth (thought it might have been 'new route shakedown' from Fuerte in April, but Heraklion earlier this month just as bad).

Ryanair generally more punctual - Jet2 one of the worst, if not the worst for delays. As mentioned Ryanair and Jet2 have different baggage allowances so be careful when using the different carriers.

I wouldn't worry yourself about the Huzar case.

So yes they tried to dodge their EU regulation responsibilities and string along a punter (show me an airline that hasn't).

But in reality the majority of Jet2 and every other airlines flights are on time and hiccup free. The airline industry isn't famed for its customer service skills when things go wrong so you could have as much trouble with any airline.

He and his family were delayed an apalling long 27 hours in Malaga by Jet2.

Jet2 aircraft have an average age of 22.2 years.

    Nowt to worry about?

I'd happily book them tomorrow if I needed to. Delays happen and very few airlines deal with them well. 27 hours is extreme but it does happen from time to time and not just to Jet2. I have no issues with the age of their fleet.

We're talking leaving a family at Malaga for 27 hours and not taking reasonable measures to get them back to North west England.

Malaga is one of Europe's busiest airports and there were numerous opportunities for Jet2 to re-route the Huzar family, but they delayed them for 27hours.

I have used Jet2 several times without problems and would happily use them again.

Staff have always been pleasant enough.
