Car tax on line from today!

If I buy a car and I'm told it has 11 months of tax on it, how can I confirm this and does the tax still transfer over to the new owner?0
-
a wild guess that when you register the car you have to pay the tax and the previous owner is refunded??0
-
Car tax still stays with car ... unless previous keeper requests a refund. Then new keeper will be required to tax or sorn vehicle.
New rules though in October - when tax discs will no longer be issued.
Then when you sell your car you will automatically be given refund, and new keeper will have to tax or sorn.0 -
Heard of problems with the new system.
Someone I know, who had no problem when calling Coleraine has now tried online and by phone to tax car - with it saying there is no insurance - but there is! The database which anyone can go on to AskMid shows it being insured!
also was listening to radio ulster on saturday they had spokesman from DVLA. Still alot of people having problems.
Also being told that cherished transfers can take up to 10 weeks !!!0 -
Bleeding awful. We got it to work today (no technical error message), got payment details in, got a successful transaction message but, on the same successful transaction screen, it told us there has already been a successful transaction so we cannot do anything and gave us the option to cancel. So was it successful or was it not?! Do we need to go to the post office or will a tax disc arrive?! Yikes, what a mess.Always overestimating...0

Tried to renew my tax on it last week, the V11 (NI) renewal form has more digits in the reference number on it than the 16 it asks for on the site. The 0300 number to do it over the phone won't accept it either and has no option to speak to a human. Ended up going to the post office.0

Government makes a complete balls up of what should be a pretty simple straight forward computer system..... what a surprise !!0

I did mine the day after go live.
I used the V5 number (which their system will recognise) as the V11(NI) number is, as you say, too long. I tried dropping numbers from the start of it, the end. None worked.
All went through on the V5 number without a hitch and the disc showed up in the post 3 days later.0 -
and it starts....

DVLA problems in Northern Ireland.
It was inevitable - switch over was too quick and now motorists here are the ones disadvantaged.0 -
Apparently the database transfer of driver details to Swansea was only 96% successful, which is why people are having problems. :mad:0
