Worked via automated phone service though :j

Just needed the reference number from the tax book.

Any one else had problems with / got the online system to work?

  • I thought it wasn't happening until 1 October. Has it been brought forward?

Yes from today we use the swansea based system which means we can tax on line and by phone.

You're right that from October 1st we all move to the disc-less system.

    Interesting
  • Bought my tax online with no problems.

It was a quick, easy process. :j

Is nobody there worried about the loss of your ability to administer NI vehicle issues within the Province? Swansea is no gold standard of administration, and assuming Scotland votes to break its political ties with rUK, I gather DVLA will be invited to tender to run the service on a contract basis until full control is assumed of these matters.

The forced closure of all the local vehicle tax offices around the UK was a case in point. The demand was there, but the Govt didn't want to pay for it.

Not worried in the slightest. When the announcement came out about the job losses at DVLA (NI ) I was astounded at how many people it took to administer one small thing. Thats half the problem with NI we have 26 councils, 5 Education Boards, god knows how many health trusts etc etc etc in an area in the rest of the UK that would have one of each. Far far too top heavy. The vast majority just want to tax their car and thats pretty simple - I did mine at the Post Office on Monday.

    I have to agree.

The who process was admin heavy - from having to EITHER go to your post office OR go to a Tax office and queue.

No particular issue with a centralised mainland service. Its not like i was likely to take a day off and rock up to coleraine, rather than just phone them with a query anyway.
