I hate apple!

P.S. I'm not sure about the insistence that people must be either "fixated with" or "absolutely hate" something.
I've personally found a couple of exceptions to that, but on the whole it seems pretty accurate. Some Apple users are almost cult-like!
I tend to look at individual products when buying, but if someone told me I was going to be given a device completely at random and could only choose the company, I'd choose Apple. Their % of decent products isn't perfect, but is consistently much, much higher than other companies. There are plenty of awful phones from Samsung and terrible laptops from Asus (for example), but you'd have to try to find a "bad" product from Apple.
That's why they cost so much. They're not overpriced. They're priced so that they can be bought safely by people who aren't interested in researching the best device for their needs, as well as people who are just too stupid to do so.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

have you seen the cash mountain that apple are sitting on? they could afford to cut their prices but know that they don't have to"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

Interesting post. For what it's worth, I don't think Asus laptops are too bad at all. I've certainly seen much worse. In fact, Asus were voted 3rd best manufacturer of laptops in 2014 behind Apple and Lenovo respectively and in 2013, they were voted the most reliable of all laptop manufacturers with just a 15% failure rate as opposed to Apple's 17%. I'd say HP and Toshiba are much worse.
Also Samsung produce phones for both the cheap end of the market and expensive. It's not fair to compare Samsung's cheap (awful in your words) phones with Apple's £700 device. If you compare the newest Galaxy with the newest iPhone, I'd say there isn't much difference, two very good phones.0 -
Sure - I thought about mentioning the camera (stills and movie), but decided not to because every phone does that. :-)
Which other phone runs Apple apps?
iPod Touches are iPods.
You said 'iPods run apps' I was pointing out that only an iPod Touch runs apps. That leaves the iPod Shuffle, Classic, Nano and Mini not running apps. 'iPods run apps' is incorrect therefore.0 -
OK we've covered that YOU already had iOS apps and you were already in that ecosystem, but any smartphone can run 'apps'.

I've already pointed this out, but given up having been corrected a few times.0 -

And of course the implication was obviously that the iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad run IOS apps.
I know other phones run apps, but the system isn't quite so polished. I tried getting an app onto a Windows phone and it repeatedly failed. I tried getting an app on a Samsung Ace and it said it wasn't compatible. Also, a lot of Android apps seem to want to send data and access information which isn't obviously related to their function.
So, my experience is that, although other phones do run apps, the process can be a bit pernickerty.0 -

As far as good/bad products from Apple go, I think the 8 GB iPhone 4S they currently offer is a bad product; it doesn't make sense for it to be less than 16 GB.
Me, I've got an iPad, which just does what it says on the tin. I have a BB PlayBook which I hardly ever use, and i tried a Windows tablet before buying the iPad and found it to be quite horrible. As far as price goes, i bought my iPad with Tesco vouchers.
I've got an iPhone (as you know), and I've explained why it made sense to me to buy it. I was given a Windows phone (a Nokia 520) by my company and found it rather unpleasant, so I acquired a used iPhone 4 (not even 4S), and it is just so much better.
Computers-wise, I have 6 PCs (running Windows 7, Server, Ubuntu, Red Hat, and Solaris) and use multiple VMs running a selection of OS's on those machines. I also have a Mac mini (I bought the older model with the discrete Radeon 6630 graphics in preference to the current integrated graphics model), and it is nigh-on perfect.
I think Apple understand usability better than any other manufacturer, and it's up to you to decide whether you want that or whether you will accept a product which has a similar specification but may fall behind in that area.
I guess the assessment of stupidity has to take into account whether you consider the above to be relevant or not. There are lots of things where you have to decide whether the product's quality is worth the extra.
Another side of Apple which hasn't been mentioned is the after-sales support. My son's iPod was broken when a boy pushed him and it fell on the ground. It was out of warranty and I took it to an Apple Store; they replaced FOC. I remembered that when I was looking to upgrade my phone, and it was a factor in getting the iPhone.0 -
Apple... complicated???
:rotfl:What will your verse be?
