looks like apple were so busy making there devices look shiny that they forgot to test the software.
CR
Nope they just test more effectively on their own hardware, which means uless you are using an iMac or MacBook Pro you are using an inferior version of their product (iTunes).
That's the whole ethos of Apple's product line. The closed ecosystem with almost no configuration possible. Unlike when you deploy to Windows which can be run on just about any old scraps of hardware you can find, and in most cheaper end versions of laptops tends to be the case, and an ecosystem that is normally heavily butchered by the user, their applications and Windows Updates. The likes of iTunes has never been particularly good on Windows.
The whole Apple vs Google (Android) debate is pointless. Both are perfectly usable and both have their own strengths and weaknesses.0 -
I thought this was a thread about helping someone get podcasts onto their iPod shuffle.
Multitasking stolen from Android? No, Apple stole multitasking from Palm WebOS, and Android took plenty from it too, but anyway....
So you can't see a sync button. I presume the computer, and iTunes sees the shuffle, and that you can get into the screens showing what syncs to it. When you make changes, there should be a 'sync' or 'apply' button at the bottom right of iTunes - is that not there?
Alright keep your knickers on. Where did I use the term 'stolen'? Multitasking has been around for bloody years, all I said was that a standout feature of early versions of Android (as opposed to iOS) was that it had multitasking.0 -
Don't know about ApplePhobes and fanboys but I love my Iphone - way better for me than any android that I have tried. On the other hand Itunes is just the worst piece of software I have ever came across and is the sole reason that I have an Ipod that has been sitting in a drawer for 2 years without use. It's that bad it makes Windows media player look good.0

I'd rather be in a world where Apple was the market leader than any other company; I lived through the 90s, when it was all Windows for PCs, and what a dull world that was.
I've used Blackberry, Windows Phone, Android and iPhones; the iPhone wins hands-down, especially when you consider it has a built-in iPod and is compatible with the iPad.
As for Apple ease of use, I sometimes find it disconcerting when things work, without me knowing how...
But yes, sometimes iTunes can be a bit clunky, can't it. However, for me, the benefits outweigh the odds.0 -
I unistalled the old version of itunes and grabbed a 2 year old version from oldapps.com. It installed ok but wont let me open it as says its a new version of itunes has created your list.
Thinks its time for the shuffle to go back in the drawer.
Now wheres my £9.99 walkman that does this so much easier?0 -
Unless anyone knows of a way to take the podcasts from itunes and tell me the folder they might live in then I can just copy it accross to my shuffle without itunes running?0

consumers_revenge - if it's a problem with that service, have you had a go at: uninstall iTunes. Restart computer. Restart computer again. Install iTunes (latest version) again. You might also be able to choose between the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of iTunes which might help.
Stoke - my knickers are firmly attached. Actually hold on...
Multitasking, like a computer, on mobile devices is very recent, WebOS started it, and Android and iOS still don't have the same thing, they have lots of services that can run in the background but is more rigidly controlled than WebOS was. That helps with battery life and system speed, but it's not the pure multitasking we're used to on PCs. And the way you switch between apps on iOS IS pure theft... I'm not bitter, honest...
Anyway, we're talking about an iPod Shuffle, and I guess a Windows computer, so iOS and Android shouldn't even have been mentioned...0 -
almillar - tried all that - no joy. as I said iv'e googled and im far from the only one it happens too.
iff I can find the files downloaded on my pc I can copy them over that way.0 -

as before:It was a hybrid between a hate apple and help thread. We aided with one half, everyone else has done the rest.
Perfectly reasonable to discuss apple in general and its closest competitor (android) when the thread is a rant against the brand as much as the product imo.

although i think you managed to stray further off topic than all of us combined with webOS...
one rule for us...:rotfl:0 -

(Start by looking in My Music->iTunes Media or check the location in iTunes (Edit->Preferences->Advanced Preferences))
But I'm not sure how useful that will be. If you are starting again to drag and drop items and abandoning iTunes history you might as well start again and use Podcasts app to manage podcasts only on the iPod.
You may also lose the remember position bookmarking on multiple files, too, even if you do manage to drag and drop.0
