Click "Sync" button. So you're running iTunes, you plug your Shuffle into your computer, it appears in iTunes, you click on it, across the top should be Music, Podcasts, Videos etc (maybe less for a shuffle) and you go into these categories and choose what to sync. Where are you having the problem?
That is how it works on non-iOS ipods or with music et al. Podcasts, however, are fundamentally broken and there is no sign of Apple fixing iTunes and the iOS Podcasts app.
I would, OP, give up on using iTunes for podcasts and choose an alternative app for managing them via wi-fi on your ipod. If you have purchased an ipod recently from Apple return it to them as not fit for purpose.0 -

Why do you need a separate podcast app? It's a ruddy audio file for goodness sake
It should have been replaced several years ago by something that acknowledges the 21st century0 -
Very confused by your point regarding apps being made for 50 different phones. The kind of fragmentation you talk of is an Apple concocted myth peddled back when Apple were massively dominant but Android was starting to grab a market share. At the time, API's were improperly documented, device hardware was far too specific and general testing found apps may only work on a few devices. Google started the Open Handset Alliance back in 2007 I believe, just before the first proper release of Android. The point of the Open Handset Alliance is to ensure all Android devices use the base source of Android therefore keeping fragmentation to an absolute minimum. It also means many phones now share the same chipsets, GPU's, Wi-Fi adapters, flash memory, cellular modems etc etc. So in reality, developing for Android is actually significantly easier than Apple fanboys would like you to believe, and this myth that you have to develop your app for 50 different phones is complete rubbish... that's coming from someone who has developed professionally.
If you're happy there's no need to upgrade. The 4S is a good phone and while it runs iOS well, there's absolutely no point in changing
Firstly Thank you for what is often lacked in this debate... a decent discussion. It really does frustrate me that it commonly leads to flaming when comparing OS, consoles and so forth.
I agree with all of your points regarding what i have said. a very equal view of both OS and the flaws each had. I use past tense because you are right; what they both lacked they gained very soon after realising the other had a USP. Now the playing field is almost level and the difference really is personal opinion.
With my comment about the 50 phones (typical male... exaggerating slightly) i dont mean that they are designed multiple times ( as we know they are not) but more how they used to operate between different handsets. I cant think of any particular examples as the problems I had were admittadly when i owned an S1... i obviously now dont so my comment on this applying to the current app store is somewhat short sighted and il happily retract that. I cant comment on something i dont use anymore.
however the issue i used to have was downloading an app on the S1 only for other family members to download the same app on another android based product and have issues with it. This related much more to the budget models though. The most common issue was of course app crashing.
I agree that there is not really any need to upgrade the iphone 4s... it performs as well as the newer model and hey... the next samsung and iphones will be out before christmas. however, i cant say i wouldnt appreciate a bigger screen size (which is something apple has always lagged behind on).
I think we have reached an awkward stage for mobile manufacturers though... how do you develop the current line of handsets? the improvements in the last few years have been small changes; an improved camera here, a new gimmick which isnt desperately needed there (finger scanners anyone?...), a bigger screen (particularly looking at you apple..) or a shiny new case with the same phone inside... again...looking at you apple. So whats next?... they better come up with something good as people will start doing the same as yourself... keep the older model.0 -

this is something i have been wondering, and personally think the we are going to see some joining up of ideas, such as waterproofing with built in wireless charging, becoming a lot more commen.
i also spotted a while back a cool idea on spoof concept (iphone) video which showed projection capability for a keyboard and screen, now the screen is probably a way off but a keyboard projection doesnt seem unreasonable in my mind so something like this built in (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Celluon-Ultra-Portable-Full-Size-Virtual-Keyboard/dp/B00DCGV4Y0/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1406028650&sr=1-4&keywords=keyboard+projector)
other ideas i dont know, as i cant think of anything else that i would want my phone to do,Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
I thought this was a thread about helping someone get podcasts onto their iPod shuffle.
Multitasking stolen from Android? No, Apple stole multitasking from Palm WebOS, and Android took plenty from it too, but anyway....
So you can't see a sync button. I presume the computer, and iTunes sees the shuffle, and that you can get into the screens showing what syncs to it. When you make changes, there should be a 'sync' or 'apply' button at the bottom right of iTunes - is that not there?0 -
apparently apple software is the issue here. my issue seems to be that the appledevicehelper service lets the device appear then dissapear 5-10 seconds later. loads of rants/questions about it on the web so Im not alone.
looks like apple were so busy making there devices look shiny that they forgot to test the software.

It was a hybrid between a hate apple and help thread. We aided with one half, everyone else has done the rest.
Perfectly reasonable to discuss apple in general and its closest competitor (android) when the thread is a rant against the brand as much as the product imo.
CR: if the software is the issue have you tried downloading an older version more suitable for your ipod? (http://www.ehow.com/how_7355285_reinstall-old-version-itunes.html)0
