An old mini, it was fifteen years old when I got it, when you used the window wiper smoke used to come from the dashboard, you could see the road through all the holes in the floor. It didn't have a reverse gear, but luckily enough it was easy enough to push, my dad knew a dodgy guy who would pass it's MOT, I'm not sure if my dad was tight or hoped my death trap would knock me off!

I had a clapped out 306 1.9D that never made it onto the road. I bought it to fix up whilst waiting to pass my test.
Sold it as spares / repairs in the end as needed too much work.

    First car i had on the road was a 1996 106 1.5D.
Cheap as chips to run and really fun to drive as well.
Was my first car and i was young so took 3 years of abuse like being red lined from cold before the engine died at 177k

    1964 Hillman Minx Series 5. 417 XYA.

After 4 months blew the big end bearings so swapped the engine with one from a 61 Sunbeam Rapier that had a crap body but good engine that I bought for £5.

Those were the days, when you could do your own engine change with a box of spanners and an engine hoist.

I didn't think they fitted the quartic wheel as late as R Reg?

I had a Brown Allegro as my third car after the A40 and a few months in a Skoda Estelle!

Mine was nicknamed "the flying turd" in Uni.

Was a T plate and did actually belong to a Vicar.

My BiL drove the car a few times many years before i owned it.

Drove it to London in '91

Renault 9. Didn't have luxury features such as a passenger mirror or clock!

Sounds like weight saving features on one of their high performance models :p

  • Fiat 128, which I bought for 300 quid in 1982. i knew precisely nothing about cars so I bought with no service history, no test drive, and I have no idea about how many miles it had done.

A mate of mine told me he knew someone who was selling a car so we went to have a look at it. I haggled the owner down from whatever price they wanted and I drove it away without even the most cursory inspection.

I flogged that car to death for about 18 months and IIRC I put about 40k on it without a service or even an oil change.

I eventually had to scrap it because it rotted away under me but the engine never missed a beat
  • A 67 Vw beetle that was given to me free. The drivers door used to fly open going round left corners and the brakes were even on or off.
