You spend 4 hours waiting in traffic? Not moving?
Go a different way to work/pleasure/wherever next time.
Each to their own, but I saw a 5 year old car take between 3 to 5 seconds to start at the lights the other day. The driver was not impressed (neither was the queue behind him either).
No, I spend about 4 hours every couple of weeks with stop start activating, it is possible to move without the engine running, which I do in slow moving traffic on downhill sections of road.
I am out and about 2-3 days a week in urban areas. Traffic lights are to be expected.0 -
Topdaddy, I assume you own a car. You're stubbornly sticking to your point even when the world around you (OK everyone in this forum) is telling you you're wrong.
How about a little test.
Go for a drive, get the engine up to temp. Stop the car somewhere safe, not the engine. Put the heating up to top temp, top fan speed, and pointed directly at the occupants, rather than at feet or windscreen or whatever. Of course, it'll be warm.
Now, switch off the engine, but let the fans keep going. It's still warm isn't it? The heater (that's the engine!) isn't running any more, but heat is still being blown at you, for a while. That's residual heat. The point in the context of the original post, is that if any system needs the engine to run, either it won't switch off in the first place, or it'll restart automatically.
If you're still having trouble understanding that heat doesn't instantly disappear once the engine is stopped, open the bonnet and stick your hand on the engine and tell us how cold it is if you can still type ;-)0 -
I just realized the topdaddy keeps referring back to a heater, what heater?..... the heater solenoid?0

I had stop-start on my 1985 VW Polo! The "Formel E" version, E for economy. Never used it though - that was an old school car, no fuel injection or EMS or what have you, and I think in that case worrying about the starter motor, battery, etc. was probably justified. On a cold day it could be better at stopping than starting."Einstein never said most of the things attributed to him" - Mark Twain0

not if the heater isnt set to hot before the engine shut down. Pixies or other wise, seriously what goes on in his head?
We're not talking about that scenario.
WE are talking about the scenario whereby there is heat in the matrix already and latent heat will continue to be used as long as possible, then the car will restart itself.
In the scenario you are talking about, a car using stop/start will simply restart itself to generate the heat.
You are looking for a way out here to retain some sort of dignity (in your own mind at least) however you're just digging yourself into a hole.0 -

Hes referring to the fact that if the heater is set to "cold" in the first place, then there is no hot water in the matrix.
So his "get out" is that IF the car had its heater set to cold AND the car had stopped AND you wanted heat AND you put the heater on then there would be no latent heat to use - which is NOT the scenario that was queried in the first place, and NOT the scenario everyone else is talking about.
Hes trying to save face, by changing the scenario.
However its like me saying "if i turn the ignition on the car will start", and him saying "NOT if theres no fuel in it!" He thinks that makes him look smart, whereas it just makes him look argumentative for the sake of it.

Well you chaps i admire your perseverance, i assume from your replies that the troll is digging himself deeper.
You are made of tough stuff and salute you all, i gratefully slid an ignore tarp over the hole and the relief is bliss....quite why you are still putting yourselves through this though i don't fully understand, NURSE more popcorn and a shot of rum for medicinal purposes there's a dear..0 -
I was hoping to see him say something like a heater solenoid is something that heats the water:rotfl:.
I wonder what his take on dual zone climate control in stop start car, oh wait that would be impossible now wouldn't it and im simply making the word up! :rotfl:0 -
So what point are you trying to make?
That the engine will kick back in when it is needed?0
