so, I tried to give them notice of my intention to give notice (I intend to give notice end of october) on friday but think that they have cottoned on to fact I want to leave as they kept avoiding me! I must do it tomorrow!

have applied for a job as an in-house lawyer with a really good company. might not even get an interview as not sure i have the right experience for the role but worth a shot.

the boy has not been very mse this weekend which is annoying, we spent 130 in WR - mainly because he put a load of stuff for himself (shaving stuff etc) in the trolley! i did mention to him that we would have to be more frugal when I'm no longer working but not sure he really gets it.

we were meant to go to a party last night but i couldn't face it as so down from work so we got a chinese instead - just shy of 30 - we really must cut down!

so, Ive done it - I've given notice! This time I barely cried and I also had a real sense of calm and relief I didn't have last time. It's a good job really as there is no going back now, even if I wanted to as they know I'm not committed and that we both need to move on.

OMG I will be unemployed from the end of january - arghhhhh!

Been ok MSE wise today - spent 2 on 2 tubes of toothpaste (was 4 but boy and I split everything) and 77p on postage so really ok. Lunch and dinner from stores - dinner is a sausage and chestnut pasta bake which is prepared but am waiting for the boy to get back from his run so I can bake it in the oven!

I am properly starting my training towards marathon tomorrow night (intention being to run tues/thurs/sun). Starting totally from scratch again with a couch to 10k in a period of 8 weeks which will take me up to start of december so still give me loads of time to up the mileage. One good thing about having no job will be that it gives me lots of time to train.

  • Hey Lulabelle,

Just read the beginning and end of your diary (will catch up on the middle another time)

HUGE well done on the big decision you made and handing in your notice from what I have read it seems to be the right thing for you and I am sure you will be just fine!

    aww thanks LG!

Yes, definitely think right choice. I am very much looking forward to a new beginning!

Last night I trained towards marathon. Am just on run/jog/run/jog for 20 mins at the moment as think will feel overfaced otherwise but did it and happy with that. Dinner was from stores - not the most healthy - tacos! but the boy cooked so that was nice - stayed off the booze too.

This morning worked out with my trainer so happy with that. have lunch with the girls today for someone's birthday but still have pasta bake left over from monday night and don't like the food at the restaurant we are going to so am going to be MSE and still go but just have a coffee. Tonight is from stores - beans, cheese and bbq sauce on toast! Again, not majorly healthy but we don't have much else in.

Have to get milk on way home so with that, coffee and training session won't be a no spend day but at least limiting it.

Work is hard: once you know you are going its hard to motivate self and have a tricky skeleton argument I must get done today. But I can't not apply myself for the next 3.5 months as don't want to burn my bridges or let clients down so need to get head down and focus!

Thankfully hump day - only 3 more days then a whole weekend of doing what I like without work!

was v good mse wise yesterday. went for the lunch but just had a coffee so going to transfer about 3 to my friend as she paid as i didn't have enough cash on me (and that will include my contribution towards a tip). Asked boy to grab milk as I didn't have enough on me. He got home and hadn't got it as he didn't have enough on him either! So we pooled our pennies and had enough.

Dinner was from stores last night and same tonight. So I will have barely spent anything this week (other than personal trainer) which is good given I'm going to be unemployed from february!!

On that note, work are being v difficult with me. They are making me feel really guilty about leaving and they tried (only on the day I gave notice mind) to get this other bloke who was leaving his law firm to come to us. They then represented to me yesterday that he probably hadn't thought of approaching us because of me, because I was ahead of him and he wouldn't want that (personally, knowing him he hasn't really got an ego so I doubt that's true) and kind of intimated if I had told them earlier I was going they might have been able to nab him but I don't think that's true because he is starting in his new role on monday so must've signed on the dotted line ages ago.

68 more working days (though prob 65.5 as have 2.5 days hol to take in jan) - wish it didn't have to be this way but guess that's inevitable. Makes me feel even more am making right decision though.

Still struggling with leaving what is a successful career but I have to look at it as am leaving something which makes me profoundly unhappy.

  • Sorry to hear work are being difficult with you, doesn't seem right at all to try and blame you for them not being able to nab that guy! You've given your legal notice period and they just need to deal with it!

I am sure you will be very successful in whatever you decide to put your mind to next, but most importantly you know now the value of your happiness and a work - life balance so you will also be happy in your choice whilst daunting Its also exciting!!!

I'm envious of you being able to do this, I hope I am in the same position to re-train in the future. My OH needs to do this first though and get out of the army!

awww thanks LG! I've actually given them 3 weeks extra notice than required under my notice period - in some ways wish I hadn't now!

Frustrating not being able to say anything to anyone but guess it will come out soon.

Lunch and dinner were from stores last night (including a glass of wine) but managed to spend 21.82 on amazon! arghhhhh! but i got 2 lovely baking books and 2 fictions so not soon bad (or at least that's what I'm telling myself!)

missed my run last night - was getting ready to go then realised i hadn't hung up all my kit to dry and so couldn't go! So trained with PT this morning and will go for a run straight after work. The boy is going for a run after work too (with his mate) then we are going to go for a curry and a couple of drinks.

Tomorrow is going to be spent cleaning the boys flat as he has found someone to rent it - real pain cleaning but means he will then contribute to mortgage here which he hasn't been so far (only some bills) so can't really grumble too much!

yesterday was not very MSE!!! Had to book a flight to see my parents at xmas and that was 142! Then went for run after work (I am amazed - I used to be one of those straight down the pub at 530 on a friday!) then out with the boy for a curry - 22.50 each so not a cheap day yesterday!

Today we have cleaned his flat for 3 hours this morning - still a fair bit to do so going back tomorrow. Had lunch from stores - egg and chips!! Not the most healthy but we had not much in and neither of us can be bothered to go do a shop.

Tonight we are out for dinner, just the two of us - should hopefully not be more than about 30 each with drinks. The boy then wants us to meet up with a couple of his mates so could be messy.

This afternoon I'm preparing for interview - I got an interview for that in-house job I applied for and it's on tuesday! arghhhhh!!!!!!
