Right, seriously need help now. :-(

The ex is now working at my sons' school 2 afternoons each week - in the same class as my older son.

I am trying to word the strongest ever letter to the headteacher about this but don't know where to start or who I might copy the letter to. (MP?)

I am in the library for 2 hours and can come back tomorrow so ANY help at all would be very gratefully received.
    Liz

    P.S I'm very cross!

    Hi ,
you need to write to the head and the head of governors. You need to clearly state that you want any issues brought up for discussion at the next Governors meeting and that you want a reply. If you don't put this in your letter then the head or the head of Governors can just deal with it anyway way they like withoput informing all governors.
lost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013

Mollypop = my ex is now one of the governors!!! So he wouldn't be much good in a vote about himself. :-(

    Sorry to butt in!

Write the letter - addressing it to the Chair of Governors/Head Teacher. Put them in envelopes marked - "Urgent and Confidential" and place both of these in a separate envelope again addressed to the relevant people. This stops the member of staff who opens the envelope (e.g. secratary) from reading the letter.

You also need to explain why you are raising this now and not when the nominations were made public.

I would also drop the bit about being dyslexic and being out of school. This could come across as being spiteful compared to the rest of the letter which is very measured.

As you are also concerned about your (and other) childrens saftey whilst they are at school then you can also raise the concern (assuming nothing happens out of the letter to the Governors) with the Child Protection Officer at the school.
Each school should have "a senior member of the school’s leadership team who is designated to take lead responsibility for dealing with child protection issues, providing advice and support to other staff, liaising with the local authority, and working with other agencies.

"The designated person need not be a teacher but must have the status and authority within the school management structure to carry out the duties of the post including committing resources to child protection matters, and where appropriate directing other staff."

    Hope this helps

Thanks! Don't know who the CPO is but I'll leave a letter with the title on. Have a feeling it may be the head, as its a small village school.

  • As this is a potential child protection issue, it is not suitable to be put on the agenda of a public meeting (which normal governors meetings are). There are specific processes (which should already be in place) to deal with this once the concern is raised.

I would ask for a written acknowldgement of the receipt of the letter:

"Due to concerns raised in this letter, I request that you send me a written acknowldgement of this letter and details as to how this matter will be handled"

OK, the next governor's meeting is Thursday which is when the ex is going to be "sworn in" or whatever they do.

Im not so much bothered about his being a governor, as having actual contact with children twice a week.

    I'll ask for an acknowledgement

I think you might need to act BEFORE then - I know it's only two days, but it looks as if there are serious failings in the school/board of governors' responsibilities to carry out full security vetting of anyone who is going to be working with children. Recent history is full of frightening examples of what can happen when local education authorities allow their standards to slip.
