The 1st sheet says:
11/05/2001 New principal £11,875.10 DR
11/05/2001 New principal £1414.98
THEN....
11/05/2001 ADD NEW INTEREST £3258.84
so by 30/05/2001 I owed £16,548.92.
Now owe £9795.40

You quote
"May 2001 we were £1,414.98 overdrawn.
4.5.2001 Loan repayment (to the a/c) £11,875.10
This made us £13,290.08 overdrawn :-( :-(
8.5.2001 debt collection (credit) £11,875.10
8.5.2001 debt collection (credit) £1,414.98 left the a/c at 0.00 and it was then closed."
What date did they close your account and send it to debt collection?
It is important as I do not think they can add that £3,000 interest if it was after the account was closed and sent to debt collection. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
HSBC a/c has been shut for 6 years. I now have an a/c elsewhere.

Hi I am asking you to go to your new bank and request to see the documentation for the two SDs. An SD can only be set up by you at your own bank.
A DD is set up by the creditor (MCS) using bank details that you have supplied and authorised.
Trying to unpick what happened so we can add that to the letter as well.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
See post 152. A/cs were taken over by MCS and big charges added on 11.5.2001.
a/cs actually closed by HSBC on 8.5.2001. So 3 days in limbo before MCS got hold of them.

Yes, I can phone my mate at Nationwide and ask what went on with the 2 standing orders. Will have to be next week now but MCS have given me 2 weeks to "start repayments" so that's OK.0

Thanks
Will try to re-edit the letter this weekend.
basic is
Try to remove £3,200 in interest added after moved to debt collection
try to remove £2,??? for mis-sold PPI
Try to remove MLA and MBA charges - do you know what that means yet? I am betting that at least one is a set up fee for the PPI.
Complain about haressment , trying to force you to pay more than reasonable etc.
Complain about unauthorised SD if possible. In particular that you would not have ceased payments if they had not done this.
Complain about the way the whole debt issue was handled in th first instance. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
All sounding jolly good! Wonder if my mum would know what MLA and MBA stand for.....
(she worked for Midland for 13 years, albeit a long time ago)

Just keep at it, ACEY - you're getting some EXCELLENT help from RAS and it WILL come right in the end.
RAS - I'm proud of you.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

No, mum doesn't know what those initials stand for. I think I might pop in to local HSBC next week and ask them.
