" You have failed to reply to my letter of xx August 2007. A copy of this letter is enclosed....

Also it appears that you have credited the £10 (which I had sent you as the maximum statutory fee that you would be entitled to charge for providing me with this information) towards the amount that you demanded in your original letter, dated xx month 2007.

I am fully entitled to ask for a full and detailed statement as one was NOT supplied with your letter dated xx month 2007, and I am, equally, fully entitled to question ANY part of the 'alleged debt' with which I am not happy.

I feel that you are acting in contravention of the OFT guidelines on Debt Collection, having provided me with the information that I required, and am legally entitled to, that would have helped me to make an informed decision over your original demand for payment.

In particular, I require and explanation as to how a sum of £13,xx was refere to debt collection by HSBC on date month 2001 and MCS rcord the value of the alleged debt as £18xxx on date month 2001.

Please also explain the meaning of the terms MLA and MBA that apprear on some statements that I do have.

I find the tone of those letters that I have received from MCS, to be of a threatening and intimidatory nature, again contrary to the Guidelines for Debt Collection as laid down by the Office of Fair Trading.

I will, therefore, be reporting both HSBC, and Is it mercantile Collection Services, to the Trading Standards Department and I inform you that I have, today, registered an official complaint, with the Information Commissioners Office as you have failed to provide me with the information that I requested within the allowable time-scale."

I have checked before on my current a/c and the payments to both MCS and HSBC were standing orders.

    Hi

if thes were standing orders, then you had to complete the forms and take them to your bank.

Next time that you go, can you ask them to bring up the files containing the signed authorisation for the standing orders. These days they usually scan them and can produce them on screen to order.

Let us know when they were authorised, please.

One possibility that ocurs to me is that at some stage you replaced a SO for one amount with another and did not cancel the old one, but that MCS collected the £33 and ignored the other until they decided to nick the extra money.

I can't really go to the bank, as I don't have an account or indeed any dealings with them at all.

Surely they wouldn't give me information over the counter, as I am no longer a customer?

Which bank account was the SD drawn on earlier this year? The one into which your benefits are now paid? Not HSBC
