The £9,000 was the balance just for a few days until that money was taken out of the a/c again to pay the loan off.

Can you follow this up with the benefits people by phone this week?

You really need this money ASAP.

    Acey

Some of Saturday's posts seem to have gone AWOL.

Did you get any news about when the Housing benefit will start being paid?

Have also checked with MCS/HSBC and my statements says they were standing orders. But I know I did not agree to have a 2nd payment taken each month.

Can you check with your exisitng bank as to whether the money going out was a DD or a standing order.

Creditors can change a DD without your permissions but not supposed letting you know and giving you time to object.

They cannot set up standing orders, you have to sign the document and take it into the bank.

This matters in terms of the letter.

    Early 2000

This paid off our overdraft (over 2,000) and another debt.

Was this other debt with the bank?

I have the statements in front of me for this, from September 2000 - May 2001.

it is almost impossible to tell what happened without seeing the actual documents.

I know you already mailed CAB but could you arrange to see a financial advisor there or at CCCS if there is one locally and go through the statements.

What We are after is the toal amount of real debt- the amount that you clocked up in overdrafts minus all the charges and credit loan insurance

This is not going to go away. Can you respond to the queries above?

Did you send the letter telling them that you are taking advice?

I have phoned over 100 times to try to ask about Housing Benefit, they are always all busy. Yesterday I went into the Job Centre and they gave me a pre-paid envelope so now I am asking in writing.

I have checked before on my current a/c and the payments to both MCS and HSBC were standing orders.

The name of the company is MCS or Metropolitan Collection Services.

The other debt was a car loan.

I cannot go and see CAB at the moment as I have 2 children to look after for the next fortnight plus hospital appointments for the older one. I was hoping for a written reply from them.

I have not written to MCS again yet.

I have written to Experian and asked for the ex's name to be removed.

I also got a credit report off Equifax today and that was also very good, just showed the single late mortgage payment (in 8 years), exactly the same as the Experian report. However, the Equifax not only had the ex's name on, but also showed that I live at 2 addresses - they think that I live at 2 houses with the same number! So I have written to them about getting the ex's name off and correcting their error.

Can't do Creditcall as they only let you pay by credit card and I don't have one.

Hi Acey - I know that RAS is giving you good advice - I have been following, but there really hasn't been any more that I could add.
However, and believe me, I do appreciate your situation, you really MUST speak to someone.
Metropoltan Collections (MCS) are the HSBC debt collectors, and, to the best of my knowledge, they are part (and a rather nasty part) of HSBC.
If you can not actually go to CAB - can you possibly phone them?
I hope everything goes well for your older child.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Have tried phoning but could try again. I could also print off my letter to branch x of the CAB and send it to branch y (bigger branch and no longer under flood water!)
