In my massive child-free clean up, I have found another letter from MCS.

Its dated 16th January 2007 and had a slip at the bottom which I sent to my bank.

I had phoned MCS to say I could no longer afford the payments I had been making so this is for £21 per month. Interestingly, it also says that upon full repayment of the debt, registration with the relevant Credit Reference Agencies will be marked as satisfied - although I have received reports from all 3 and the MCS debt isn't mentioned!!

So I had sent this off to reduce my payments, and MCS had taken these £21's but kept the previous payments running alongside......

I have phoned HSBC today about the MLA and MBA and they said they couldn't tell me because my account is closed but said they might be able to help if I went into a local branch, so that is a job for tomorrow.

Thanks for that. makes sense now

Does the letter from MCS refer to your request to reduce payments or just "reference out phone call".

And did you write to the bank and ask them to cancel the other SD, as MCS could not cancel if on your behalf?

Have gone one better! I spoke to my Lone Parent Advisor lady who couldn't help directly apart from looking on the screen and agreeing no benefits had been paid. However, she said to print off another letter and she would put it in the internal post bag between the JobCentre (where she is based) and the social security place.

Also got my legal aid bill yesterday for the divorce which is £18,000 so that's another debt to add on!

    Acey

    two things.

been looking at the HB situation. As you are on Income Support, you do not get HB. What happens is that from the 39th week, your mortgage interest is paid. So you need to get hold of the Income support people and find out what is happening.

If you have been out of work over a year, you should get it paid now. Can you chase this up

And re the divroce bill, is that £18,ooo including the £10,000 for which you had to remortgage or £18,000 plus the £10,000 you have already paid?

OK, the letter about the payment says....

We confirm that we are prepared to accept repayment our your debt in installments.... £21 by 28/01/2007 then monthly payments of £21 by the 28th day of each month....

... a standing order mandate is attached...
...one of the benefits of paying regularly is that no interest or charges will be added to your account whilst you maintain payments (hmmm, that'll make up for the thousands they added at the beginning!!!)

    Etc etc.

It is quite possible that I did not phone the bank to cancel the 1st standing order :-(

No mortgage interest payments been made yet... I only sent the letter to Abbey last week so they might take a while to fill in their part of the form and send it off. I think I'll phone Thursday/Friday.

The whole divorce bill is £18,000. The £10,000 remortgage will go towards this. The other £8,000 will have to wait, accruing masses of interest every year.

If I move, or (heaven forbid) ever move anyone in here, I have to give my sons £14,000!!! This would have gone to the ex but he chose to put it in trust for the boys rather than immediately have it taken off him to pay his legal fees.....

Hi Acey, Ive been talking to Rag2 and Ras about your situation. Just adding to what is said above about receiving mort interest payments after 39 weeks, I was wondering if you took your mortgage out before 2nd October 1995 ( and not re mortgaged since then ).

If thats the case you will come under the old rules, where you receive nothing for the1st 8 weeks, 50% for the next 18 weeks and full costs after 26 weeks.

Whichever category you fall in to you should have been in receipt of payments by now. Yoy need to contact your local job centre plus ( or your lone parent adviser ) and find out what has happened to those payments.

You should be entitled to a full back date of all relevent missing payments.

Good luck, and I shall be back tommorrow night to discuss your situation further.

    Best wishes.

    Thanks, Debt Doctor.

I moved in here in July 1999 so the 1995 rule shouldn't be a problem. I remortgaged in June 2006.

Unfortunately, the lone parent advisor at the Job Centre (who is v good) can't advise as it the benefits are worked out elsewhere. Somewhere that doesn't ever answer the phone.....

Right, popped in to Ludlow to see the manager (I think!) of HSBC and MLA is a Managed Loan Account.

He wasn't sure what an MDA is....
