Have a person coming to , hopefully , buy my plastic chicken coop instead of it sitting in the garden. I must put some more stuff [treasure lol ] on preloved as the conservatory is past it, it was 2nd hand 12 years ago and needs replacing before the winter.
Once the treasure is sold, I will buy old scaffold boards to build a new one, only 10'x12'.Already have a second hand dg small window for it,free! I need 50 boards, and can source an oak s/h door for the garden access for £25-£30.
Got motivated to repaint the dresser this morning, I've only had the paint for 18 months, which is the amount of time my blue and white china has been stored in a box!
Definitely time I got my head out of my *rse!!!

    Well done villagelife!

    Today's OS:

    1. Yesterday I finally cancelled the posh organic veg box and instead started an order of local (Kent, just down the road from me) fruit, veg and eggs. Aiming to eat more local even if not all organic. Got the delivery today and it looks lovely.

Caterina - what company have you changed to? I live in Kent but haven't managed to find a veg box co who will deliver to my neck of the woods towards the end of the week! The only one I can find delivers on a Monday, which isn't really that convenient - I'd really like someone who could deliver Thursday or Friday.

Very OS day for me today, I'll be in the kitchen with my pinny on. My week has conspired to keep me from my baking so I'll be making a chocolate cake, scones and a blackberry and apple pie ready for my visitors tomorrow. I'll also prepare all the veg for tomorrow as we are out in the morning and we arrive home with the visitors about 1.00p.m. so everything has to be ready to cook. The meat will be cooking slowly in the oven all morning.

I have a leg of lamb in the freezer which was on offer and then reduced down to £10.00. We'll have to celebrate this as I have a feeling that at this price it will be an historical moment, never to be repeated judging by the price of lamb legs in the shops.

    Hi,

I am tend to be a lurker more than a poster. Came across this thread at just the right time...

I became debt free in November last year and was still being careful until January this year when I decide to throw my hat in the PPI ring (thinking I wouldn't get anything out of it, especially as I had been paying off debts on a DMP for 11.5 years and hadn't had any cards or loans in that time and nor did I have any paperwork).

How wrong was I. I got back £13,500. This has allowed me to do all the jobs on the house, replace broken things that were on the list once I was debt free however, treat DH who stood by me even tho the debts were rackedmup before I was with him and I wouldn't take his help to clear. I also treated other loved ones who had no idea I was in this pickle as my OS ways from here had stood me in good stead during my dmp.

Since having the ppi money, I have become bit blase because I've had cash in my account. The money has now gone but I'm not worried because I still have what was my DMP money going spare each month but I'm getting jittery and scared that I'm gonna end up back in debt, despite my husbands assurances. Meal planning and shopping carefully, has gone out the window as has coming on here to look at all the boards not just those I subscribe to, so I need to get that back on board and I need to get my mind set back in gear.

I've read this thread from the beginning and it's given me a kick up the derriere so thank you all kindly. Hope you don't mind if I lurk...I've already got you on subscribe, so I know where to find you all. Lots of great tips and nice to see names from other boards that I recognise on here, such as ginnyknit, Esther and lessonslearned. Hope it's okay if I tag along....
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.

I have had a good morning - made half my compost bin. I only had 2 pallets but have been offered 2 more from a neighbour when he gets them.
I have also made a start digging a vegetable bed. I am thinking of having several beds radiating from central bed - which is the one I have started.
Removing roots and stones is taking time. I am planning on starting planting next year.

Welcome CurlyTop and congratulations on becoming debt free AND recovering PPI money! I am sure that you will find your OS ways again, we are all in the same boat, even if in different situations. Looking forward to reading your posts.

    My OS today:

First of all, yesterday DH and I went a little crazy and not very OS, spent the best part of fifty quid but ate and drank lots of really good stuff at the Italian festival. We were so fed up to be kitchenless and really needed to let our hair down, and he works hard and feels sometimes he needs to have a treat. But we decided to have a super frugal week to make it up. We were going to have a bash on my birthday next week, instead we will have a picnic and go to the free concert if the weather is fine. We had our bash yesterday!

Today was going to be a NSD but I accompanied a friend to waitrose to get a few bits (her) and free coffee and tea (both of us), but saw some lovely goats cheese that I normally don't buy because too expensive. Reduced to 45p/100g. Got 3 pieces ready wrapped for the grand sum of £1.31. Plus a great big bag of own brand granola (cannot make at home as still no kitchen grrrr). The OS bit is that I used to buy the fancy brand but instead I got a big bag of own brand much cheaper. I am sure that DH will not know the difference.

Also we decided no fish and chips from the shop tonight, to save money, so will have home fried potatoes, frozen peas and fish fingers to keep with the Saturday fish tradition, all of which I have at home already.

Processed and frozen all the cooking apples, there was a lot of insect damage but got a decent box full, now in the freezer, 3-4 pies or compotes worth, esp. if I go forage for blackberries, which I meant to do but haven't had the time or inclination yet.

So, it looks like a weekend of simple pleasures, including oiling the new kitchen cabinets and worktop. DH has already started and our builder is doing windows and walls. It has to be fully decorated and sorted before Monday, when the main builder comes back to put down the floor and finish all the bits and pieces that he has to do (I lost count of what!). Then electrician and plumber will be able to electric and plumb whatever they have to, I shall then ask the delivery people to bring in the cooker, and God willing before August is out I should have a new kitchen! Can't wait.

    Have a good weekend all.

Oh the veg box people deliver to my area!!!! I shall have to have a good nosey at the stuff on offer. Thanks for that.

I've joined a grocery challenge on FB with some people from another part of this lovely site - I've thrown my challenge in at £200 for August for the 4 of us (2 adults, 1 x 18 and 1 x 16 year old and 1 x17 year old BF who seems to eat here more often than not). DD2 is off on holiday with her BF's Family for 5 nights and then she's off to stay with my parents for a few days so much less food required.

Will be doing a good store cupboard and freezer inventory tonight/tomorrow and try and plan the months main meals. The £200 has to include cleaning/toiletries and pet food too....pet food alone will be £50.

Friend popped round with bartered sausages from the farmers market, big pack of sausage meat too so that's at least 5 meals worth of free meat, I gave her some runner beans and courgettes off the plants to take home with her in exchange.

When you start putting your mind to it, it comes back doesn't it.....slowly but surely.
