Today is the 4th day I've not been near a shop, we are eating out of the freezer. I did a food cupboard inventory at the weekend and it's actually working, I can easily now work out meals from it.
I ahve 5 courgette plants bearing fruit, no mean feat as I'm way up in cold Scotland but I'm happy with them even if they are quite small. Strating to get a few sales on ebay and vinted as well so quite chuffed.0 -
Caterina, which online store were your veggie plants from? I could do with some more to fill up the emptying beds on my plot
Hi Floss! I bought from Delfland Nursery, here is the link:
http://www.delfland.co.uk
Today was good, all the plans went ok, but as I re-read my post I realised I forgot to delete the organic veg, which I shall do in a minute.
Also reduced my cash health insurance. Some of it is an extravagance and I have left enough to cover for dental check ups and a few chiropodist visits, which I need occasionally.
DH and I thought it would be good to go to the cinema, orange weds would mean we pay £4 in total, but after dinner we reconsidered, there is a lot to do, DH is still painting the new skirting boards and I had to make the bed. So we saved that money and the journey too.
Early start for me tomorrow as I have a London OS meet up, so I need to sort out books and other bits and pieces to swap.
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Had a lovely birthday and very frugal too. Lunch at Mums, cash off her for outfit for Ds's marriage blessing - one problem solved. Also flowers off her - you will see this becomes a trend. Then trip to Dunelm mill - zero spend, Mum spent £1.29 on a net curtain rod. Into Hobbycraft only bought a punch I needed to finish Ds's decorations for blessing. Mum spent £5 on pens and paper for Dgs - saved me buying it.
Onto Dd's as Dgs is poorly and not eating, bought him chips and gravy on the way £1.50 which he ate with glee - problem solved. Dd gave me papers which announce I am now Lady Ginny :rotfl: she bought it on offer from wowch*r and flowers.
Ds and Dil arrived at 8pm with flowers! - see the trend now
Mum spent £1.89 on gladioli's, Dd spent 29p on ys chrysanthmums and Ds bought the flowers from his wifes aunts shop so they were a bargain no doubt. They would have all cost about £20 + if they had paid full price so m extra pleased. Oh and I bought myself roses for £2 yesterday at Aldi as they were beautiful.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.

Oh well doneI plan to do this for the next week or so too. The only things we should spend money on are salad stuffs possibly on Monday now and chip shop on Friday. Other than that I want to use what we have in stock

Lady Ginny, belated happy birthday!
Today I am meeting up with a few OSers (see separate thread if you are interested -London meet up) so I hope my day will be full of OS joys!
We are meeting in IKEA Croydon, so we can get unlimited free drinks, the lunches are cheap - I tend to buy two kids meals instead of one main, they come with lots of extra bits and pieces and cost less than half the adult ones. There is a lot of seating space, natural light good for anyone with crafts, nobody bothers us if we stay hours, it is an ideal meeting place.
Will also buy the sink and tap for the laundry area of the kitchen, hopefully this is the last big expense, but I have £30 on a gift card that they sent me as compensation following a problem they did not resolve well, and £100 on another card that cost me £93 (7% discount) via DH's work website. So I save around 1/3 of the price. Good enough for me!

Had a very cheap evening meal last night. Meat free. Cauliflower & chick pea curry. It was delicious. Hubby made it while I was at work, that made it taste even better.
Picking runner beans/french beans and freezing like mad. Running out of ideas for courgettes!Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
Northwest - I'm with you on the courgettes! I've got half a dozen in the fridge at the moment which I've picked in the last couple of days. We had one of the big ones (grew enormous while we were away over the weekend!) stuffed with a mince & veg mixture. Half the mince & veg has gone into the freezer as a base for bolognaise/chilli or something later in the month!
I'm pretty certain there'll be another couple of courgettes to pick today as well!
Butternut squash are also coming along nicely - found one yesterday which is about 5-6" long and getting quite fat around the bottom! Looking forward to those later in the year.

DH informs me that taking my aunt out on Tuesday and fetching her and taking her home again, we clocked up 73 miles. This means we have well exceeded our petrol allowance for this month. Looks like we've got to be happy on our own muck heap for quite a while to level it out.
My OS activities yesterday, well I sat in the garden for a while in the morning picking up the stitches on a baby jacket I've been knitting. This felt like decadent luxury to me, especially as DH was indoors doing the housework at the time. But...., looked at another way it was providing a gift for a baby from low cost Aldi yarn, so knitting very OS and cheap yarn MSE :money:
Today I start the baking for my visitors on Sunday, an OS activity in itself.

Morning everyone, bit late to the party, but can I come along for the ride, too?
I've lost the plot a bit, OS wise, but need to get back to grips with it all now. I will be at uni in September, so I'm going to do some batch cooking to re-fill the freezer once we've used up all the odds and ends over the next week or two. Have discovered that we have 2 small gammon joints, a three bird roast (half price in Jan sale from Ald!), big and cocktail sausages, home made chilli, fish in parsley sauce, and some randoms bits, definitely enough for at least a week's meals, will only have to buy a few veg etc. We may be having DS' GF almost living with us for a while, so another mouth to feed, yet another reason to get back to OS ways!
I'm learning to crochet and knit properly at the moment, have found some simple, free, patterns for scarves, etc., for the littlies for winter or for Christmas presents, so that will occupy the rest of my summer. Also found 2 tubs of sloes in the freezer, so another winter project getting started this week, plus bramble vodka when the first brambles are properly ready next week.
Hoping for a NSD today, as we've plenty in the freezer, enough bread, milk, etc., may be visiting a friend with kids the same age as mine, and also going to nip across to the website you mentioned, Caterina - oops, may not be a NSD after all!
