Trying to keep house tidy by attempting to leave a room tidier than when I entered it - its working to an extent but I know when I come to clean it won't be such a difficult task.

I am being inspired. My working week starts today and it is going to be a week of NSD.

Groceries were all bought for the week and the garden is producing runner beans, French beans, lettuce cabbage and courgettes in large amounts.

    Good morning,

Yesterday was a NSD after all, we made do with the two leftover rolls and with ryvitas! The builder was happy with one of the rolls even if not day-fresh. But today I must do a shop.

I was thinking, there is an offer at sainsbugs ending tomorrow, spend £60 and get 10p off fuel. My car will take 60 lt fuel, which is a saving of £6 (10% of shopping). BUT:

1 - I don't need a big shop, just a few fresh items and maybe toilet roll

2 - Buying dry stuff such as toilet roll, or detergents, in L1dl is much cheaper, certainly more than 10% of the sainsbugs price

3 - I am trying to get out of the habit of "jumping to the offer", detox myself from the influence of publicity.

4 - I still have a couple of vouchers for £5 off a £25 spend in Marks, which is a 20% discount for a much smaller outlay of cash. Marks used to be prohibitively expensive for grocery but with the help of offers and YSs it has become much more affordable.

Off to the fuel station and the shops now, then I am attending a free course to become self employed.

    Have a good OS day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Not so OS today, we are taking an aunt of mine out for lunch to a very nice but not very cheap place. I have £30 happy cash but that is really intended for August but I'll easily spend that today and the rest will have to be made up from the housekeeping purse and we'll just not want to have any 'happies' in August. We'll be living from the fridge/freezer for the next week or so, but we'll survive. This outing was unscheduled or I would have planned better. Never mind, nice to give my aunt a treat for once.

Bella, the beauty of being OS is that once in a while we can afford to be a bit extravagant, because we know we have the resources to survive our little overspends. I hope you have a lovely time with your aunt!

    Reporting on my OS shopping:

Having passed the offer of 10p off at Sainsbugs I went and filled up at A$da, where diesel was 129.7 per litre, which is already 2p cheaper than expected, paid with 123 credit card 3%cashback on fuel, then shopped at a local sainsbugs with a £2 off £6 spend (new shop opening offer), which is 33 % off. Got 8 small baguettes, a bag of salad, 6 tomatoes, 1 large org. yogurt and a punnet of strawberries for £4. Bargainous!

    Off to my course now.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Xmas Saver!
    Hi all,
I hope you don't mind me joining in, I guess like most I've fallen off the OS/MSE wagon.

About 7 years ago I was a regular on the DFW board to get myself out of debt. Shortly after achieving this I got a better job (50% payrise) and my living relaxed somewhat. Although I never got myself into debt I didn't make a good job of saving, rather I did things I hadn't been able to afford before. I did my driving lessons, got a car, saved for holidays....

Last year I popped back into the OS board, my BF and I were moving house from a 1 bed flat to a 3 bed semi detached and having two jobs I was worried about both the increase in expenditure and housework. I didn't spend a lot of time/effort but enough to keep everything ticking along. Back in April the BF moved out to allow us space to work through our problems and although I thought (and he said) things were working better between us last month he ended the relationship. Two weeks later he was in another with a girl from his work.
Since he moved out I didn't make any changes to either my lifestyle, the house or the outgoings (well other than the council tax). I never thought he'd not come home. I still have sky multiroom and full sports package!!!

So now some changes need to be made to get my life back again and stop watching the world pass me by.

Although my salary covers the bills there isn't a lot left and I have so much to do in the house (complete redecoration, new kitchen in time etc) so I guess the first step is to get my finances back on track and call Sky. It's silly how that call feels so final, like admitting he's never coming back, not that I want him back now anyway but still!

    So, tonights OS tasks are;
    -call Sky
-get information on pensions packages (I have three from different workplaces!?!) and options available
-clear out paperwork cupboard where I've been hiding everything

I sometimes think this board could do with OS diaries like the DFW ones. It would be good to see a chart of how terrible we can be to start and how efficient in the end :)

    Hello all

    Sorry about your ex Linsayjane.

I have a NSD yesterday and today. I will need to go shopping tomorrow without a doubt. Not sure if anyone will be happy with tea, but it's tough, it's food, it was in the house and they can eat it or go hungry.

I'm doing a bit of decluttering today. I moved 11 months ago today. No idea where all the !!!! comes from.

Oh I'm also going to do some baking.

I'm not doing too badly considering it's the school holidays.

Dd is going to the cinema tomorrow so need to give her money for that. We are going to the seaside fairground on thurs. But I bought the tickets via school and they were better than half price. Will be taking a picnic on thurs and they can have chips for tea and ice cream during the day at some point.

Decided to try Aldi today and while not everything we use was cheaper I did save a bit on the things I bought. Their cream cheese, barm cakes and buttery type stuff was considerably cheaper. I bought some rather nice veg and pulled pork which was a good price. I think I will make a note of what is cheaper where and keep it with me. It did mean I had to walk an extra half mile which was bonus to my fitness regime. Just trying a bowl of aldi vanilla yoghurt - big pot was less than pound, I think , and its not saccharin sweet which I like. Unfortunately the cauliflowers were all rotten and I really felt like cauliflower cheese :(
