What happened to being nice to newbies?

I can understand the initial posts, but then along come others to stick the boot in.

I agree that no compo should be due, other than by asking nicely, maybe a small discount on an alternative cruise but even that is unlikely

The op asked a perfectly valid question about compensation or partial refunds!- even more valid if they had never been on a cruise before as i haven't, and has not read the T and C's.
Nanto3girls post answered the question and all the other replies were superfluous.
MSE perhaps should devise a system where once the op feels that a question that they have posed has been answered, then the Op has the ability to close the thread, instead of allowing it to become a mass bullying and belittling competition

I think most here have been too harsh on the OP.

If the captain felt that the sick person was so sick that going to Guernsey wasn't an option, and Guernsey of course does have a hospital, then 3 more days at sea could have been life threatening to that person - he could have called a helicopter to airlift the person.

Then it ceases to be a forum but becomes a question/answer board.. Ask and Yahoo do those if that is what you want

Our air/sea rescue guys are good but ARCC would never risk a chopper and its crew for for a med-evac from a cruise ship unless the medical condition would result in death if the evacuation was not done.

    There are 2 factors here.
    1. There was a medical emergency that required hospital treatment
    2. Weather conditions prevented the ship docking at the last port which would have been the obvious place to get hospital treatment.

The Master took the obvious course of going direct to Southampton which was the best option rather than heaving to/loitering in high winds in the hope of being able to get into Guernsey.

We are here to help...in your case however, it appears that you wish to help yourself to some compensation. If you had been in this situation and been the passenger who'd fallen ill and was in need of medical attention. Do you think that the other passengers should have received compensation because you had become ill and the ship needed to make port? Of course not...stop being silly and grow up!

    Actually I think it's a reasonable question.
They paid for an experience they didn't get in full.
Why shouldn't the holiday company offer a discount or a partial refund.
They are the business they take the risk, they should be out of pocket if things don't go according to plan, not the customer.
The OP isn't talking about suing the person who took I'll or complaining about it, or the weather.
But facts are, they didn't get what they paid for, could they get some money back or a discount.

A very good idea but in many cases the OP being advised lets say in post two to sue everyone in sight would close the thread as that what they wanted to hear .That goes for many other threads as poster does not actually want to know the truth but have their opinion backed up by other users .

So be it then. Most advice here is just an opinion and not necessarily legal anyway! Too many of these threads end up with people arguing amongst themselves whilst the orginal poster has long since bowed out. (Just like this one!).
It would keep threads much shorter and anyone wanting to continue the argument could go off to the MS arms or do it by pm!

Getting differing advice on a particular matter is one thing, getting castigated for asking a question about your rights is another.

The OP raised a valid question, after all this forum has no qualms about screwing every penny from the airlines for being 5 minutes late !
